The New York Times Op/Ed section is an adventure through Liberal Fantasy Land, both with facts and their own view of how the world should work.
If you want good information on this subject, read the book More Guns, Less Crime.

If it saves even ONE life it has to be worth it! Think of the children!

In the next couple of years, neither George Bush nor anyone in goverment is going to open up internment camps like Roosevelt did fifty-odd years ago. But think of your worst nightmare of a political leader. Isn't it POSSIBLE that a person like that MIGHT be in control here some time in the next 30, 40, or 50 years, with 51% of the Congress and 51% of the Senate behind him? If that does happen, do you REALLY what your children or grandchildren to have been stripped of their final guarantee of freedom? And do you really want them to have been stripped of it BY YOU
I also like the drivers licience argument. Here is my answer.

You know, driving is a luxury, where firearms ownership is a right secured by the Constitution. But let's put that aside for a moment. It's interesting you compared guns and vehicles. Here in the U.S. you can AT ANY AGE go into any state and buy as many motorcycles, cars, or trucks of any size as you want, and you don't need to do anything if you don't use them on public property. If you DO want to use them on public property, you can get a license at age 16. This license is good in all 50 states. NO waiting periods, no background checks, nothing. If we treated guns like cars, a fourteen-year-old could go into any state and legally buy handguns, machine guns, cannons, whatever, cash and carry, and shoot them all with complete legality on private property. And at age 16 he could get a state license good anywhere in the country to shoot these guns on public property.
Comparing guns and cars is so stupid i cannot beleive anyone would even make that argument.

You know, driving is a luxury, where firearms ownership is a right secured by the Constitution.
that implies that only things enumerated in the constitution are rights, which is completely the wrong thinking, and exemplary of the reason behind not having a bill of rights in the first place

The article is typical nonsense printed without question by the Liberal Media and is taken as fact by idiot citizens too stupid to find out the real story. The article is completely devoid of references to support it's allegations...as usual!

As I and other Members have not only destroyed this argument in numerous posts, I will not post about it further.

The truth is out there and you will not find it printed in this nation's major newspapers.

hmmmm, I wonder how many people are killed with kitchen knives and baseball bats? Maybe we ought to start
looking into banning those too....

When guns or any other item that can cause death start jumping up and killing people on their own without any help I'll
be all for stopping their availability. Until then, I'm for punshing the people who choose to use them for anything other than
self defense or for sport.

Bluga, my comrade -

I know guns are illegal in your country, but they are legal here for responsible citizens because we have the cajones to secure our individual freedoms.

Maybe one day your people will become free again from tyranical government lead by women and wimpy men, and you may taste the freedom we enjoy in America.

Bleep, first of all I wasn't the one who made the initial comparison between cars and guns. Secondly, if you noticed the ;) at the end of my quote...it was a comment said in sarcasm and jest. I'm very pro-2nd admandment in case you were confused...I take offense at being lumped in with the other side! :p
