First the Canadian forces are bombed, now a wedding. Is it just me or do U.S. soldiers/pilots seem to be getting more and more trigger happy as time goes by? That or these soldiers/pilots etc. are fearful of loosing their lives and in turn would rather play it safe and take the lives of others... Looks like everyday that passes, less and less are supporting the U.S. war effort against terrorism. As Spidey says, "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility!" Take a hint!

"Play it safe" does not fit into the context of war and battlefield survival.

If you'd get off your padded ass (comfy in front of your PC?) and put yourself in their shoes (thousands of miles from home, cleaning up a mess that never should have happened, in hostile territory) do you think you might be a little prone to erring on the side of keeping your ass alive?

Well, Spidey also turned down Mary Jane at the end of that movie, so I'm not listening to a damn thing he says.

1. Coalition forces shall note that live fire excercises shall be taken by U.S. pilots as an act of agression and will be blown to bits.
2. People of of the middle-east, please do no use any firecrackers for U.S. militants cannot distinguish them from live ammo.
3. Geraldo Rivera, feel free to fire off your handgun and use firecrackers but please play alonel.

** More will be added as the U.S. military screws up.

Viper GTS, no one is forced to join the Military. At least from what I know. This is not Germany in 1942!

Nobody is forced to join, but few people want to come back looking like a freshly boxed body piercing exhibition.

Self preservation is a wonderful thing.

As an expert, how many years have you spent in the military service?

Trigger happy? Nah. As for their fear of losing their lives, nah. It's not like there are any Afghan Flying Carpets with AIM-120's or any SAM systems shooting at them.

Edit: It's just his opinion, what's with all the Ad Hom?

Now you are going off topic. First off, Canada doesn't need to worry about planes flying into buildings. As a nation who thrives off it's multiculturalism we don't seem to make enemies as quickly as the US does in it's effort to make world peace. So far, no one has really answered my question but only backed up the US for killing innocent people. So I can assume this is ok in the US?

Anyone up for a dear hunt with with bullet proof vests and armour piercing bullets?

Please don't get me wrong. I appreciate the US army as much as the rest of the world ;) But you don't need to be a "Military Expert" to realise the difference between live ammo and firecrackers. Just a thought.

Nice segue into the land of make-believe. If that darned US military could just listen to the comic book heroes, maybe this stuff wouldn't happen. Marvel and DC Comics should be required military reading.

You have the military savvy of......ummmm.....a Canadian. Why don't you go celebrate your multiculturalism with a Moosehead enema or something?

"Normally, when you think of celebratory fire ... it's random, it's sprayed, it's not directed at a specific target," said Col. Roger King. "In this instance, the people on board the aircraft felt that the weapons were tracking them and were making a sustained effort to engage them."

I would have done exactly what the soldiers did. You shoot at me, I shoot back. The civilians should have known better, SOL

Maybe because we are the world super power, not Canada. We are the symbol of the free world, not Canada. We don't need ignorant people like you playing armchair general.

I heard fireworks were pretty hard to get in Afghanistan. Couple that with the fact that there's a better chance of Afghanis having food than fireworks and you have a good explanation as to why the soldiers thought it was live ammo.

Boy, you are ignant... ig-NANT.

I for one don't think it's just "okey dokey" for the US military to kill people, especially civillians. The instances you mention are accidents, not deliberate attempts to murder people, and I the non-military type person I am, can hardly judge whether people did their jobs right in these cases. I also don't think we should justify such accidents by talking about how many people here have died (for example Sept 11).

Truth is, where and whenever you get involved with military action, innocent people will die one way or another. I also don't think we should neglect how important such deaths are, even if they are accidents, to public opinion in other countries, especially the ones where we are operating. In some ways the only way to avoid such deaths is to not be so willing to be involved militarily, to not be dropping bombs that can go astray in the first place. I think such a choice should be weighed more often than it is when it comes to US policy.

Hell if I had the toys they get to play with, I'd be blowing sh!t up left and right.

I don't think there was a big stink from americans when we were firebombing Japan in WW2 or leveling cites in Germany with high altitude bombers. Civies died then, they'll die now, they will die in every war from now untill we destroy ourselves.

Because back then the public didn't have access to the kind of information we have available today. We didn't know everything that was happening with the war. The first time we really got to see what was happening was in Vietnam, and I don't have to tell you how big of a "stick" the American public was making.

If you look into the FACTS you'll find out the Canadians were killed by NATIONAL GUARD pilots.

NATIONAL GUARD Soldiers are known for being part-time soldiers, with part-time training, part-time practice, and a full-time goal of being a hero. If you haven't guessed they scare the hell out of me... All the power of this nations military with half the training, not a good combo.

I have little doubt this latest mistake will also be traced back to national guard soldiers...watch the news.

This situation can be paralleled to playing with a toy gun in front of a cop. Do that and you can get your ass SHOT. Play with fire, you're going to get burned.

Sure it seems like that, but really you guys need to keep us safe for your own benefit as much as ours. The worlds largest unpatrolled border would be easy to take if we weren't here :D
