U.S. federal employees' pay

does anyone know if U.S. federal employees' pay is availabe for public veiwing? i'm talking about finding how much a specific person makes, given they are an employee of the federal government.

just get their gs and step + cola
but no, you can't get their info unless they are of elected office

If you know the person's grade/step level then you can use this table:

If you don't then you can call their office and ask. It is public information.

I don't know where to find it BUT it is your right as a tax paying citizen to know it if you wish.

I work for the government and I know that I am able to look at everyone's salary where I work.

Not everyone is on the GS.

hey codewiz

how would i go about finding the pay for an employee, knowing the person's name and where he works?

as for the others, thanks for the table - i've seen it before but the only thing is i don't know the person's rank or even if he/she is on the GS scale.

You can call the Office of Personnel Management. They are essentially the HR department for the federal government. They are required by law to tell you a government employee's salary, I believe.
