Giuliani's doublespeak inspired you, huh? The US was already stuck to the Afghan tarbaby when Obama took office. We were similarly committed to the defense of Iraq when ISIS attacked. Its not like Obama allowed them to thrive. We became the aggressor towards Iran when Trump renounced the JCPOA, invoked sanctions & built up force in the Gulf.

For the record, I completely get why we went to Afghanistan and think we were justified. I just think we should have had a better exit plan. And when dove Obama was elected I expected a bit more effort in cleaning up the mess and getting out, especially once Bin Laden was Bin Deaden.

Afghanistan was the springboard to Iraq. The invasion occurred less than a month after 9/11. The Bush admin never had any intention of giving the Taliban the time they needed to do anything about Al Qaeda even had they been able & willing. Afghanistan is not a place that can actually be pacified other than via genocide, particularly wrt the Pushtuns. The notion that we could accomplish what neither the British Raj nor the Soviets could do was pure foolish neocon arrogance. That's why we're stuck there today.

That really should be the law. The 1st two adult children of congressmen by law must go to war regardless of age. If there's a war, congress needs to have skin in the game.
