U.S. airborne laser advances to 'First Light'

Now they just have to shoot it through the smartass professor's window into the big vat of popcorn.

(Does anyone get this or am I too old?)

I'm suddenly reminded of the movie Real Genius. 🙂

Edit: heh, thinking of the same thing MattCo 😛

Not really, the type of laser will determine if it will be reflected. This is a chemical based laser so you can't just start chroming missles.

What are the dangers of detonatiing a nuclear-type device in the atmosphere?? Would that not expand it's potential follout radius??

<---knows not very much with regards to bombs..

A ground burst creates more fallout because it blows dirt into the air. The dirt then settles in the area around the blast creating high levels of radioactivity. An air burst that is too high to vaporize the ground, will not create as much radioactive material, and it will be dispersed over a much larger area.

Ahhh.. so it's more the ground/materials it affects, VS the payload of the missle itself?

Makes sense...

Yay! We want the Frickin Lasers!
