The FACTS demonstrate that the OP's contention that the speaker "ruined everyone's graduation", is bullshit contradicted by the very video he offers as evidence.

Not directed at you, chucky, but this last fact cannot be legitimately argued, and yet, watch, it will be.

Yeah, I'd agree with that after watching the video. For me, regardless of the subject of the thread, speakers should keep their political commentary at home.

That's fine, it's a lie, I really don't care either way what the OP said.

The fact is that this lady tarnished the graduation ceremony - I would not call it ruined in totality, but ruined for that amount of time, sure - by interjecting political BS on a non-political situation.

What if I went to a NAACP awards ceremony and started ranting on EEOC laws? I could have a point, maybe a few in the audience would agree with me, but, would that be the correct venue and time to make my opinion known?

No.

The same applies here, that is the point.

For me, regardless of the subject of the thread, speakers should keep their political commentary at home.

And here, I also agree in the main. While it can actually be difficult to keep any and all of your political views out of a speech urging young folk to go forth and do good (what constitutes good?), THIS speaker was far too narrowly focused and negative and clearly inappropriate in her focus as regards the occasion.

Interesting. First, feel free to invite her to this forum so she can defend the indefensible -- which, of course, is her conduct at a graduation. Secondly, if I search through your post history, I won't find a single post of yours which insults a politician or celebrity -- correct? CORRECT? Because I am reasonably sure that I could find one.

I am entitled to my opinion, and that opinion is that these people who feel the need to discuss their political views at forums such as graduations are complete idiots.

EDIT: Oops, that didn't take long!

That poor person was not here to defend himself! You insulted him!

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Nice example you picked there. Did you notice that Red called me an asshole for doing exactly what proved the point of the thread, and did you read also where I then said:

"They might and you might but I know they will never see what moronic points they make unless I show them one that is opposite but equal. And I'm happy to do it because it only costs me my weekly allowance for delicious irony."

In other words, there too, I criticized to show the stupidity of criticism in general. There too, I my aim was not to put somebody down, but to show those who put down how absurd they look when I do what they do. Again, we have such a need to make fun of others, but when we get it back, that is some serious attack.

I thought moonie got put on vacation.
Whats up?

His threshold for getting banned is much higher than others, I'm not sure why.

I've lifted the ban for both Nik1985 because this is clearly a misunderstanding entirely MY fault, not Perknose nor the members involved.

The brief version is that I posted something that was ambiguous implying that I HAD done something. What I meant is that I had taken an action in the past.

The issue was taken care of but not in the way it was assumed.

My apologies to Nick, Shorty and Perknose who acted properly based on what he could have known.

If anyone wants to throw a rock I'm the proper target.

Hayabusa Rider- Anandtech Admin who screwed up.

Interesting theories

You really find it interesting that there would be dirt I know on Anand? You really give such a notion credence? You are willing to slime Anand in an effort to slime me. You're a sad little pig.

This chick's speech is newsworthy??? Oh boy. The only thing that would have made it less interesting would be if Sean Penn had delivered it. I don't give a shit what he thinks at award shows, I could care even less what she is going on about here...

Professor Soto is the head of Gender Studies at the U of A. She used her speech at the
UofA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences graduation as a platform for her
anti-SB1070 opinions and gay rights. She began her speech talking about gay rights, then
immediately went into how our state is racist and is promoting racial profiling and how
everyone there needs to participate in protests against AZ legislation. In turn, she
gets booed off stage and at one point, the dean of students got on the mic and screamed
"civil discourse, sit down". Ruined everyone's graduation.

Here's a link to clip.
