I never found him funny. Low effort humor.

At least something like Austin Powers has amazing writing and lines.

Honestly I never cared for Austin Powers either. It’s better than Will Ferrell but still meh

Can’t believe y’all don’t like Seinfeld though lol, that’s much more my cup of tea

Yeah...it's like all those actors are pretending to be someone else or something! Buncha jerks!
pfft it's almost like it isn't even real

oh

acting: "it's just a front. losers!"

lol, whatever man.

Like I said in the post, the character they've created is annoying, which in turn would mean they suck at their job. Or just as bad, take roles (one-dimensional at that) which make people hate them. How is any of that a win? They should stick to stages to do their bits rather than adapt to movies. Any actor can do what they do on screen IMO. And would win nothing for it.

If you're entertained by these guys, have at it. But don't tell me they deserve any accolades by acting half their age.

holy shit. there are a fuckton of humorless goons on this board.

what is wrong with you philistines?

Not a single one of you understands how absolutely difficult comedy is, especially comedic acting, and especially stand up. I bet not one of you would ever have the balls to put up the months of work it takes to make just 10 good minutes, get up on that stage and put yourself out there, trying to get a room of people to laugh at you.

Seriously, just fucking do it, pussies.

Um, no. You just glossed over the intent, lol. That's fine, your brain doesn't get it. Move on to other things that are more your speed I guess.

OK, I'll be generous.
Let me help you out: Many years ago, young and naive (as you still seem to be) I found myself thoroughly annoyed, for reasons, when Sharon Stone was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Casino. I was like..."what the fuck? She sucks! I HATED HER SO MUCH in THAT MOVIE AAGHGHAHGHH!"

....and then my brain turned on. "Oh."

Do you get it, now? Seriously, do you get it?

^ actually I am the opposite of humorless if you know me. I deliver my one-liners too. But I honestly don't care enough to take this ridiculous topic any further as I've said my piece. Think what you will, of me, of those man-children, I couldn't care less.

Oh but you cared enough to post, 3 times now. 3 times, rh71! You care enough to post THREE TIMES!

😀

Will Ferrel is definitely hit or miss. He's just done so much stuff that depending on what your introduction to him is, or what run of movies you watch, can completely shift your opinion.

Personally, his two favorite movies of mine are The Other Guys, which is pure comedic gold, and Talladega Nights.

Never really cared for Elf or Anchorman all that much, although Anchorman was definitely helped by a strong supporting cast.

His SNL stuff, like a lot of SNL stuff, definitely ran the gammut of hilarious to WTF with a pretty heavy bias toward the WTF side.

Nah, some of us just prefer that comedy actually be funny...not just loud and stupid. (both are hallmarks of Will Ferrell's style)

Sharon Stone did an amazing job in that movie. She portrayed an terrible junkie that youd love to hate.

Then you compare that to will farrell...

It's not his job for me to make me want to punch him in curly haired head.

You get it now Zinny? Do you, white zinfandel?

I guess that depends on what character he's portraying. There's certainly times I want to punch some comedians in the face. But guess what man, invoking an emotional response is actually an actors job, it's how they know they're doing it right. Whether you laugh, cry, hate, or whatever....that's their job...to reach the audience emotionally. They're not presenting a documentary.

Oh I like Seinfeld. I just don't care much for Jerry Seinfeld.

That's because the show is more Larry David than it is Jerry S, and I agree. I do like Jerry in general, but his standup isn't always that great for me. His cars and coffee show is really great though, and helped me to gain a new appreciation for his taste and general ideas about comedy. I definitely respect him more than I did before, even though it was already long-established that Seinfeld is the greatest sitcom ever, despite Jerry Seinfeld.

to be honest I think everyone just has their own style of comedy that they like.

I watch tons of stand-up comedy, and I run into plenty that I just never get a single laugh out of the entire time. Good example is Amy Schumer - I normally like crass and cussing humor, but a bunch of "My vagina this" and "My vagina that" just wasn't funny to me....

But obviously some people think it's funny, so meh.

EDIT:

Newsflash, comedy is subjective.

Why are you so obtuse about everyone having to like will farrell?

Yup, this guy gets it.

Saw Ferrell on Colbert and was astounded at how monumentally bad he was. Then I read the next day that that night he'd made appearances on "all 5" late night shows doing intentionally bad stand-up. For me, it was hard to tell because I've never been a fan. In general, he tries too hard to do "stupid" and it's just not that funny.

What has astounded me in this thread is folks equating Seinfeld with Ferrell. Seinfeld's show was witty and original. Ferrell is a hack, imho.
