(U)I thought Top secret resides in a segregated network with no internet access?

(U)There is a DoD network called SIPERNET which is up to Secret, so how does Top secret even get out at all and into a public mail server?

if that is the case, then who is the person doing the copying of Top secret materials and then sending them via email.

They should be able to find out right? I thought there is a Chain of custody when you are looking at Top Secret materials, ie you check it out and your name is put down and you check it back in and your name is put down again.

if someone is doing this who could it be? That would definitely be a cut and dry case violation.

I once worked on a project where the client (not government) swore up and down that the government work site was not connected to the internet due to security concerns, that it wasn't wired for it, and it was physically impossible to connect to the internet. Except for the FTP server, oh, and the email server.

Who says everything being sent was over the classified system. Who says the people sending material knew or cared that what they were creating was classified.

It is far more likely that Cankles was briefed or read top secret info, then sent a normal email on the normal network talking about it.

Hey Billy,

We've got these missles in Israel... they're long and big and..... oh my goodness. I'll see you in an hour.

Love, Cankles.

Morons email it. I used to work on a system that allowed users to input text notes and some fucking idiot put paragraphs of classified information in there.

The weakest security link will always be people, intentionally or incompetent.
