Dan Abbett is the MVP out of the Black Library's group of authors. His works are just awesome. Graham McNeil and Ben Counter are also good as well but have stumbled in a few books. James Swallow is also okay and did a good job with "Flight of the Eisenstein" and "Fire and Faith" books. Of the authors named it is Dan who is the best IMHO and you usually can't go wrong with his books.

drifter, have you read any of the gaunt's ghosts novels? i picked up "the saint" (4 books in 1 giant volume) for $13. granted it's about IG, but it was a very good series. perusing the GW website, i was glad to see that have an IG model for colonel-commissar gaunt :)

It's good book but IMHO "The Founding" is the better Omnibus book and it's also the first book in the Gaunt series. I especially like the Necropolis portion of the book as it is straight up set in a massive hive city brawl. If you want some SM books then the HH series is great ( The Dark Angels book is lame and the only exception) and the recent book "Battle for the Abyss" continues the tradition. If you are looking for a good Chaos SM novel then "Storm of Iron" just kicks ass. The "Eisenhorn" series is also very good and I'd suggest you get the Omnibus version. I'd also recommend "Fire and Faith" if you want to read a "Sister of Battle" based novel.

yeah i'll have to pick that up. i actually didn't know what order the books went in, i just figured that for $13 the saint couldn't be that bad a deal :p

I'm glad I saw this trailer, since I can finally see DOWII for what it really is. A slightly upgraded version of DOW. Of course I care about gameplay more than I care about gfx, but I expected much better from DOWII.

When I saw the first awesome screenshots and trailers I got all hyped up and excited, since the gfx looked MUCH better and more advanced that in the 1st game. But this new tyranid trailer looks like crap. The engine is basically the same, with some improvements, most of which are done to the terrain and some effects like smoke, explosions etc.
Off course I'm still interested, since I'm a big DOW fan, but I no longer care as much. Maybe that's a good thing. ;)

Considering the game isnt scheduled for release for about 10 months time, Id say they have plenty of time to work on things.

Seeing the Tyranids confirmed puts a dampener on my enthusiasm, especially as you will encounter them in the Campaign... which is what I am buying the game for.

Despite my dislike for them, they seem a more interesting race to play against than the Tau or Necron. A plethora of special moves, abilities and the such to keep you on your toes.

I forsee a ton of scripted events involving leaping and burrowed Tyranids.

It's using the Essence Engine 2 (updated from CoH, of course) so the graphics will look better than what CoH currently offers, which is pretty damn good.

However, I do still somewhat agree with you on the 'nid trailer. Thing is, it zoomed in throughout the video so things aren't going to look nearly as good and trying to make a comparison to the early SM vs Orks pictures against the 'nid trailer is hard because of this factor.

This game looks like it might be very good. I hope the strategy isn't silly and a point and click eye candy fest though. Turn based would have been preferred but at least they got rid of the cheesy soldier factory buildings that plaque every RTS.

This is the game I'll be building a new computer for late this year.

Any place to download the HD trailer with the Tyranids in it without the subscription?

Hehe.

That's my point, I'd rather them (soldiers/vehicles and whatever) not produced, but instead you are leading a squad, company, battalion or whatever and what you have is what you have for that battle.

I did read somewhere that reinforcements can be called in this upcoming game, which actually makes sense and could work if not overly done. This is coming from someone who prefers more realistic strategy games though, even if based in a fantasy realm.

You know what would be cool is a working option that would allow the player to go rts or turn based so that everyone could enjoy the game to their preference with out losing any of the quality of the actual game.

Tune in next week as I wonder aloud about Cocoa Puffs and why that cartoon bird was so cookoo for them. lol

In the novel Horus Rising the main character Loken points out that no one knew how long a Space Marines could actually live because most eventually die in combat. The biggest killer of Space Marines has always been duty. Lord Commander Dante of the Blood Angels is the oldest Space Marine in fluff as he is 1,200 year old.

You call Dante old *pfff* he is but a youngling, and Blood Angels have long lifespans even by Space marine standards though.

Cleutin, bearer of the shroud, was Dante's scout squad sergeant, although he hasn't been mentioned recently, he hasn't been killed. Estimates ~1500 years old

High Marshall Ludoldus probably comes next, although he is now dead, he was the Black Templar Chapter Master and fought in the Jerulas Crusade (645 M39) and the Vinculus Crusade (833 M41). Death occurred in combat during the Vinculus Crusade - age >2000 years.

Oldest Living Marine would probably be Fabius Bile (although he is a traitor and has been wandering around the eye, which can do funny things to time). Fabius took part in the Horus Heresy and was present when the Emperor's Children attacked Earth (he wasn't present at the siege of the Imperial Palace though). Age ~10,000.

Bjorn the Fell-Handed (although currently in a dreadnaught) was alive during the heresy, he was the only member of his Primarch's personal Wolf Guard that was left behind when Russ departed for the Eye of Terror which makes him ~10,000 years old.
