Maybe you guys on the west coast can run over to your local staples to see if the manager will honor advertised price before they post a correction.

I was one of the first customers and they honored the typo.

Magellan 12 GPS "2 pack" for $89.xx after $20 rebate.
Motorola FRS 250 "2 pack for $79"

Thanks to Gonif2000 at fatwallet for the heads up!

Sorry, I was meaning the time difference. Stores should have opened 30 minutes ago on the west coast. I'm sure only a handful of people will be able to take advantage of the typo before the managers get wind of it.
Also typos may vary by region.

No deal for me here in the good old So. cal. reigon. First at Staples then at Office Depot. What a bummer, those people must read these forums.

BrotherMaynard, which stores did you go to? I went to two
Staples here in OC, and both WILL sell you two TA250s for
$79.95. Of course, I thought it was better to go to OD and
do the 155% pricematch. I was lucky and it went without a hitch.

Staples rarely honors their regular promotions without typos, what would make you think they would honor a typo?

I went to the store in Cerritos. The dirty rats at office depot said that it was because they did not have a package with two as the add at staples said 2 pack.

Damn, lucky to be you. I tried 3 stores in Orange County (North) and it seemed they were "out of stock". I think it was more like the manager told the employees to pull what was in stock.

I am not surprised that Staples decided to tell
people "it's out of stock" or similar. Back then
when I did the "get a ZIP drive with any digital
camera" deal and pricematched KBToys' $15 WWF camera,
the Staples manager was VERY upset when he sold me
$170 worth of merchandise for $15. So he told the
floor staff to pull all WWF cameras from the shelves.

But this morning I called one Staples store and
went into another on my way to OD, and both said
"we were told to eat the price of the second TA250
and sell two for $80". May be they got another
fax later in the day telling them to deny the deal.

I think I very thankful. I went straight to my So. Calif. Staples (yesterday) and they were just confused and wondering why they didn't get any two packs and sold me two of the singles. Now, I need to go to Office Depot or Office Max with my receipt and see if they will price match!

Thanks to rebuilder and Gonif2000!

This worked great for me on the TA250's. Both at Staples and Office Max!

I was just thinking of what I would do if they ever try to pull the "out of stock" BULL$#!T on me. I would ask them for a raincheck or something to get the product at that price with that promotion. They should honor the promotion no matter what unless it's a closeout. Otherwise, it's false advertising. Just keep in mind...you can always email the CEO and complain with the manager's name. I work in a large company and it takes very little to make the CEO mad around here....hehe.

Some of the Staples stores are claiming to not have any flyers, and don't acknowledge the pricing error - anyone up for scanning the ad?

Just went to a Staples in Moreno Valley, CA. Same story, "Out of stock." Asked the salesperson to call 2 nearby stores and he told me one of them just called him earlier in the morning to see if he had them in stock. The other store was out of stock as well. He said, they're out almost everywhere cause it's a "misprint," and people rushed in to get them. They had to honor it cause it was there fault...

Scarpozzi: "They should honor the promotion no matter what unless it's a closeout. Otherwise, it's false advertising."

Do they have to honor the promotion? It states, "Not responsible for typographical errors" on the back of the advertisement. Just wondering... If anyone can get a raincheck, it would be great if you let us know.

1) Typo in Staples Ad for 2 fer 1 on GPS and FRS radio

2) "Not responsible for typographical errors"

That sure was a sweet deal - I wanted a GPS for my little fishin' boat.
Looks like they're off the hook on this one, though!

I work for my local staples (south eastern mass). We DO NOT have to honor the price. The law says that if it is a 50% or 50 dollar mistake we can decline to sell the item. Of course to keep the customer (and more importnatly the upper managment) happy well take the hit.

Up here we have two way radios 2pack but should have been single pack and we told the customer to go home or buy one...haha shoudl have seen his face...then they wiped out the paper work and he was pissed

BTW, yes laugh at me i work at staples..sad thing is, it is the only local computer store...:(

I just went to Staples yesterday. Got the GPS just like the ad said. The manager said they had to honor it since it was advertised and will keep honoring it until the next ad comes out (Sunday).

Okay, this yet another Staples fiasco has led me to wonder, what draws the fine line between "typographical errors" and "false advertising"? I mean, a kind person may think the store simply made a typo while another strongheaded person may think the store misprint the ad intentionally to lure customers in. The latter is less likely with a big store like Staples that has been in around a long time. But a small, less credible store with may just "not knowingly" (quotes to emphasize the sarcasm there) use the malicious false marketing tactic to draw more customers. How does the court determine between right and wrong?

Also, if they are intentionally pulling stock from the shelves, then they are flat out guilty of bait and switch. Lure customers into the store with an awesome deal and then magically have no product to sell. If they keep this up, they'll have some Attorneys General looking at them VERY closely, and the bastards deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Staples has never been one of my favorite stores.

Just brought my two back from Staples -- awesome deal! The manager at this store said that while it is a typo, and they could refuse to honor the ad, they are honoring it for the sake of their customers. They do not have a two pack so I was given two individual units.

Also grab two packs of Duracell batteries -- 2 8 packs of AA batteries for your GPS for $12 with a $6 rebate.

Thanks, rebuilder!!

I got this deal at Staples also. They did need to type in a coupon code for the sale to go through. The code is 88353. If interestedyou may try the code with an online order. No idea if it will work or not....

I need to apologize straight out up front (it tends to help in the flame-proofing of this post);
a) sorry this is getting posted Thursday so late (new Staples ad on Sunday
b) sorry this freakn' image is so large (3.5 megs) newspapers don't scan well, and freakn' JPEGcompression makes them look even worse.

Anyhoo for a copy of the ad head over to: http://www.netaxs.com/~peter/StaplesFRGPS.jpg I've struck out at every stinkn' Staples in Philly so if any kind soul out there ends up getting 2 GPSes hook a poor brother out?
