I'm learning to type one handed and I was wondering if anyone here has been able to figure out a good way to train one of your hands in typing one handed without losing two handed typing ability. This was sparked by using a mouse and keyboard and wishing I could use both simulteneously. I figure, in a GUI interface, I will pwn everything in terms of efficiency and speed.

Thus far, I'm pretty much just practicing how to type using a different set of home keys (FGHJ), but as I start to pick up habits one handed, it impacts two handed.

I don't want to jerk you around, but when you only have half the fingers typing it will probably be a good amount slower.

I read an article somewhere a while ago about this guy writing a book on one-handed typing...maybe PC Magazine. Sorry I can't help more.

well, I'm not going for equivalent speed. If I'm gonna type up a document or code, I usually just use vim so I don't even need a mouse.

It's more for the small bits of crap I have to type to use my machine. I wanna switch from window to window using my left hand, and type commands into the shell, search terms into windows and whatnot using the right. So I only need relatively good speed.

I am afraid to ask were your other hand is! (well someone had to ask :D)

I had to type one handed for 2 months after my shoulder got rebuilt
and it did impact my 2 handed typing ability.

well look at hot women (with or without clothes) or men (whatever floats in your boat) on your computer. Eventually typing with one hand will become second nature since the other hand is much too busy.

I type very strange..

I use all my fingers on my left hand, but only my index finger on my right hand.. so my right hand looks like it's spazzing out when I type.. lol

I can type 100+ wpm with 98% accuracy, though...

I learned to type just by typing so much, my fingers "know" where the letters are, I don't use homerow or anything.

I can type one handed pretty well, because of how I learned to type.

Unfortunately I think I may have to start typing one handed. Stupid carpal tunnel crap in my right hand...

well, that's an issue I have now. I can hit 95 wpm with near 100% accuracy up until my wrists start hurting using two hands, but I use my own variant on the traditional typing methodology. Everytime I get into habits and rhythyms using one hand, switching to two hands becomes slower.

I got pretty good at typing with one hand when I was doing a lot of CAD. You have to be able to type in the keyboard commands and then click the locations to be fast. I think lots of draftsmen can type with one hand.

If you're lucky nobody gets hurt.

I can do stupid pen tricks too! The right hand, however, is often more impressive.

this may mess up your regular 2 handed typing ... But you way want to look into getting a Loft Hand Dvorak keyboard ....

I have a regular Dvorak keyboard and I can type pretty quickly with just 1 hand in comparison to a regular qwerty keyboard
