Typing on an ergonomic keyboard...

How long did it take you guys to get used to it? I can type over 100 WPM on a "normal" keyboard, but with an ergo keyboard it's like learning all over again 😛

Man, I don't even know. Started using MS ergos about...damn...8 years ago. Never looked back.

I've got the MS 4000 now, one of the best keyboards I've ever had.

Yeah, I have the same keyboard, just arrived today 🙂

It feels so different, lol 😛

I remember paying $100 for one of the early MS Natural keyboards in late 1994. I never really liked the Elite ones with the scrunched up arrow keys as much, but that's what my last two keyboards have been. That MS 4000 looks nice. I guess it'll be my next one.

I love my old ergonomic keyboard, but it's PS2 and i've got a damned USB KVM so i'm stuck with this piece of OEM rubbish.

Must buy a new one.

There's a good deal on the MS 4000 listed in the Hot Deals forum right now ($30 AR)

I've never used an ergo keyboard, but I doubt it would have much affect since I only type about 10 WPM now. 😛

Funny you posted this, I happened to pick up my first ergonomic keyboard today. (picked up the 4000). They keyboard is extremely comfortable, I just gotta get used to the style. 😛

I never had a problem switching to or from an ergo keyboard. Maybe I'm just weird like that.

🙂

Yeah, I don't get what the hassle is. To type on an ergo keyboard, relax your arms a little and type as usual. To go back to a regular keyboard, just cramp them up. It doesn't change how you type. It just changes how you position your wrists.

It took me about 5 minutes to almost double my speed on an ergonomic keyboard. I can't stand typing on a normal keyboard now. My fingers fell into the grooves instantly. There was no learning curve for me. On a good day, I can probably still hit 60 wpm on an ergo.

Well, for me at least, I use my pointer fingers to cross the keyboard to hit certain keys. I use my left finger for the Y key alot, and with the ergo boards, the Y key is on the right side, which really screws me up. I'd probably type different if I used the home row keys like youre supposed to , but when I rest my fingers on the keyboard, they hover near ASDVML;'

Does anyone know of a free WPM tester program? I'd like to know what mine is.. I think a good score was like 30 back in elementary school on that PAWS program.

I've had carpal tunnel syndrome on both hands. I find using the MS Natural Keyboard Elite is much more comfortable than using a regular straight keyboard. I also can type faster and more accurately. The MS 4000 has more features than I really need.

woah so you guys recon natural is the way to go? I always figured they were just for office workers so they were less likely to get repetetive strain injury or something and sue their employer. I need a new keyboard anyway (just built a new PC, I only realised when I read this thread I forgot completely about keyboard, that wouldve been good at the Lan party im hosting next week 😛) MS 4000 it is

Thanks, but shipping it to the UK would probably cost a little bit more. 🙂
