Typical pay rate/wage for an entry level part time programming position?

I'm looking for a part time programming job on the side. There's a serious prospect and I'm pretty sure we're going to discuss what I want to get paid. Obviously I'd like the most amount possible, but I need to make an APPROPRIATE and realistic proposition.

I'm in grad school for computer science. Will be working 15 to 20 hours a week. No commercial experience. So what should I ask for? The job is for some in-house software development (client software and/or web apps) for a branch of a large investment firm.

Programming generally requires experience, and alot of it to be good at it. Since this is part time, it's likely going to be an hourly rate rather than a salary.

Just for reference, I started at $11.50 an hour as a programmer, but that was back in 1997, and quickily raised to about $60k/y (25-30 an hour) by 2003. With inflation, and all that, I'd say $15.00-20.00 is about as realistic as you can get. But it all depends on location, type of work, and the company.

15-20 is accurate for Inland Empire (california) programmers. Though not a lot of part time positions. Generally, if it is part time work, they farm out the excess vs hire a part time person.

I got paid $21/hr as an intern in Nov 2011 and only worked 25 hrs per week. This is for Omaha, NE.

No experience, I wouldn't expect to make more than maybe 20-25 bucks an hour or so ...
