types of mmc (CF, SM)?

Hi,

Can anyone point me to a links where I can have a good understanding of different type of multimedia card?

Basically, I am looking for more info on which brand of mmc is the best for the price and buy camera and camcorder with that kind of memory storage. 😀

I am just so confused over the different type of memories(CF, smartmedia, memory sticks etc) and even with the same type of memory the different standards (usb, non-usb, ??x, etc).
😱

Thanks.

I would recommend buying a digital camera which accepts the two most popular types of media SmartMedia or CompactFlash.

I vote for Compactflash. IIRC, IBM has a nice little 1 GB or so compactflash hard drive available, which would be nice for a high-res camera. 🙂

Ive always been a smartmedia fan, i get 460 pix with a 32 meg SM card on my 1.2 megapixel fuji camera. Granted ive never used compact flash so i have nothing to compare to, but i have never had a problem with my SM

Regardless of whichever media type you choose make sure your digital camera has USB and pick up a 6-in-1 card reader so you don't drain your batteries while downloading picts from your digital camera to your PC/laptop.

Thanks all! 🙂

I am more confused than ever. 😀

Seem like CompactFlash stand out for the high capacity. 😉

Thanks again.

Been looking at a similar situation for my handspring visor. I'll list the pros and cons that I know and hopefully some people will add and maybe we can get a nice list going.

Compact flash
Pros:
fastest (assuming fastest speed settings) writing
sturdy

Cons:
eats power for lunch (Assuming fastest speed settings)

Notes:
not all CF cards perform the same since they have their own controller on the card. Comes in two types with Type I available in up to 512meg sizes.

Smart MEdia
Pros:
very good on power

Cons:
feel like old 5 1/4 floppy disks complete with the feeling of fragility

Notes:
available up to 128Meg

Sony MS
Pros:

Cons:
slower than SM and CF
proprietary
more expensive than MS or CF

SD/MMC
Pros:

Cons:
slower than SM and CF
more expensive than MS or CF

I'm leaning towards CF myself. Anybody else have info to add to this list?
