Tyan Tiger 100 Dual Pentium III OEM for $89-20? or $100-$40

yeah. I was thinking of the same thing.. Anyone have got their motherboard yet (from overstock?) I ordered about 1 week ago but still no sign of the mobo... 🙁
 
Just received mine today! And a proud owner. A few quick tests and I was convinced Overstock was pretty close in their advertisement. I went to the Tyan site and pulled down the info on the front case connector, only had to make one change and that was move the power led lead (+) next to the ground in the three pin connector, a total of about a minute. No soldering was required to connect to the case switches. The board properly detected my 550 Mhz PIII flipchip and booted into Windows 98 adding the board drivers(2 gig drive pulled from a pentium machine).

I tossed in a 533 Celermine and it booted up just fine. Loaded in two 500 Celerons and the board detected both, indicated the microcode was fine on both processors and continued loading.

The Bios has FSB of 103, 112, and 133 it's locared at the botton of the advanced chipset setup. The 550 PIII booted and ran fine at 112 indicating at the next reboot a speed of 650 Mhz. The slocket I had the 550 in didn't have voltage tweeks so at the 1.6 volts it locked at the splash screen when FSB was set to 133. This is normal for that chip as it needs 1.7 to go to 733 in my other boards.

This may be an OEM board with a different board layout but certainly capable of running at 133 Mhz.
 
I got mine today too. Well, it's revision B instead of F. Anyone know what's the major difference between revision B and F? (other than the number of PCI slots). thanks!
 
Got the board on Monday and my PIII700 came today. Popped it on an MSI Master slotket and boom, picked it up just fine.

Upped the FSB to 133 and I am at 933 now.

Hell of a deal for $69

I was just wondering if anyone here in this board have tried to get TWO cb0 700mhz CPUs from onvia.com (see above thread) and then use this US$69 Tyan Tiger 100 motherboard to get both CPU overclock to 933mhz and very "stable." Gosh, if this could be accomplished, this is one darn great deal of the century! 🙂
 
I only have one 700 running at 933.

Unfortunately, my money tree could not handle the 133FSB this month and I had to clock it back down. 😀😀😀

If it will run 1, then it should run 2

Only wierd thing is that at 133FSB, my PS2 mouse port does not pick up and I have to use a serial mouse. I have not had a chance to try it with a USB mouse.

As for stablility, it's been running RC5/OGR for about the past 48 hours without a hiccup at all.

Where on Tyan's site did you find info on the case connections?

I searched Tyan and Gateway and couldn't find a thing on the block connector pin outs.

By the looks of my board, all the placements are there for the retail jumpers. Looks like they just cut off the jumpers. If you were handy with the old soldering iron, I bet you could put the pins back on and have it work just like retail. I have not been able to get my HD led working yet, and I have not gotten the power LED working, but power is working and I guess that's all that really matters.

I am afraid I am all thumbs when it comes to soldering.

There must be a layout for the jumpers that will make them work with a normal case.

How has everyone else jumpered their boards?

Found it. Got everything working but the HD light.

There are two pins in the normal spot for HD, but they don't work.

Anybody got the HD light working?

Does it matter which slot the CPU goes in?

My board wouldn't boot with 1 PII 400 in slot 1. Works fine in slot 2, which didn't make sense to me. The only other dual board I have worked with was in an HP server and it neeed a slave card in the empty slot to run.
 
The boards are 1833D's not 1832D's. Rev. B is on the board, doubt there was an F rev.

The board is an OEM and no exactly the same as a Tyan branded boxed retail board.

 
Has anyone figured out yet how to properly connect Jumper JP20 so that the Power/Sleep/HDD LEDs and Power On/Off work properly?
Also has anyone had success with Dual CPU's, Celeron PPGA, PII, PIII - Slot1/FCPGA?

I wonder if someone could do a test to compare the performance between dual 366 oc to 5?? with a single 700mhz CPU setting... would the first setting actually faster under Win2000? Thanks!
 
I just got my Tyan Tiger 100 OEM in the mail (S1833D).
I also downloaded the manual from Tiger for the S1832D to figure
out what the jumpers meant.

After looking at everything, I have a couple of questions for those
of you who've installed the S1833D...

1) While it may be possible to attach to the JP20 block (2x9
plug block) for most of the case/power connections, it looks
like there's no way to attach the case speaker EXCEPT by
soldering in leads on the J15 block (where they're currently
missing). Correct or not? Some people had stated they got
the entire thing up and running without soldering, but I don't
see how you can attach the speaker otherwise. (Not a big deal
to solder, but if I don't have to I won't).

2) What does the J12-J11 jumper (near the BIOS chip) do?

3) What's the J8 jumper (near the 4th PCI slot) for? Note: not the
JP8 jumper, which is elsewhere and used for the floppy
configuration.

4) Can I use UNregistered 256 SDRAM with this board. The manual
makes is unclear on this point.

I had not really messed with getting the case lights working on mine until now. After looking at the Tyan manual for the 1832dl, I realized that it is a little bit misleading.

For the Hard Drive LED use pins 1 and 3 on JP20.

For the Power LED use pins 2 and 4 on JP20.

Power On and Off are pins 5 and 6

Reset are pins 7 and 8

I did have to change the connector for the Power LED down to 2 from 3.

J8 is an part of the intrusion detection system...it connects to the case and when removed, opens the circuit and sounds an alarm.

I believe J11-12 are used for Multiplyer selection for older intel processors that were not locked.

I can find no way to connect the case speaker short of adding leads to pins 24 thru 27 on the J10 block.

As far as whether or not a 256MB module has to be registered in order to work, I don't know.

1. This MB has a built-in speaker. There is no need to attach the case speaker leads. As a matter of fact, you can not connect the case speaker leads. The speaker is a round little speaker, looks like a modem speaker, and is located near the ISA slots.

2. 3. & 4. You better call Tyan tech support about these. J8 appears on the 1832d manual but it is not explained there. Tyan tech support should be able to tell you about its possible function.
Usually, jumpers not explained in manual are reserved.
Just don't tell the technician you have a 1833d MB. If you do you'll get no answers. The jumpers on both MBs should have the same function.

Connect case leads to JP20 as follows:
Pins 2&4 connect the Power LED lead. (Green Wire on Pin2, white wire on Pin4).

Pins 1&3 connect the HDD LED lead. (Red Wire on Pin3, white on Pin1).

Pins 6&8 connect the Power On/Off lead. Since Pin8 is ground the wire that goes there will probably be black or white. Pin6 color wire should probably be red or green.

Pins 5&7 connect the Reset lead. Pin 7 wire will probably be Blue and Pin5 wire will probably be white.

The colors of wires for different cases will vary but you get the idea.

I've installed TWO Celerons 533A PPGA CPUs running at 75Mhz Bus to 600 Mhz X 2 = 1200Mhz. Of course, you only get about 80% of the second CPU's power. So the actual speed (power) will be about 1.0-1.1Ghz.
You also need NT4 or Win2000 to take advantage of two CPUs. Everbody knows that, right?
The Celerons are installed on two MSI MS-6095MASTER Version 2.3 Converter Cards.
Flip Chip Celerons DO NOT work in Dual Mode, with or without ANY adapters.
If you want to run Celerons in Dual mode you MUST get the PPGA versions. 533 Mhz is the highest speed PPGA Celeron produced.
You should still be able to find them for about $90.00-$100.00 each.
I got mine from thenerds.net, $201.00 for both with FEDEX two day shipping. But I think they just ran out of stock. They should be available elsewhere though. Check www.systemlogic.net/cpuwatch/.
Get the Boxed version with the factory fan/heat sink. They work perfectly. No fancy cooling is required.

The only glitch encountered is that upon a warm reboot with the reset switch or ctrl-alt-del, the BIOS seems to recognize only the Primary CPU. With a COLD reboot - Power OFF/ON both CPUs are recognized, but they get listed by the BIOS at their factory speed, 533 Mhz, not at their overclocked speed of 600 Mhz. But, they are in FACT working at 600Mhz. These Celerons do not work above 600 Mhz.

This is a pretty inexpensive setup to get about 1.1 GHZ.

I understand that if you want to get dual Flip Chip PIIIs to work you MUST get the ABIT Slotket!!!. That's right, it is called Slotket with 3!!!. You can find those at the allstarshop.com for $7.95 each.
They also have the MSI 6095MASTER for $10.95 each.
Or you can get Slot1 CPUs but then you cannot fool around with voltage settings for overclocking.
