System: Win 98SE, TYAN s1854 Trinity 400, Pioneer 104 DVD/CD with latest firmware.
Problem: I updated the TYAN bios from 1.06 to 1.07. Now Win 98 reports my DVD player as a CD player. In the very first boot screen the DVD player is recongized (IDE sec. drive pioneer DVD), but in the 2nd boot screen it is reported as CDROM mode 4. When I am in windows it is reported as and functions as a CD player.
I have downloaded the latest drivers from the TYAN site but they make no difference. I have tried several different BIOS settings but nothing works.
PLEASE HELP. THanks in advance.

hmm does it still work as a DVD ... (meaning capable of reading DVD's ..)
did u reinstall the drivers of your DVD drive ??
it might be that the driver update of yer mobo screwed the driver install of yer DVD drivers ... just a guess tho ..

I will not read DVD's, as when I try I get an unknown format error. The motherboard simply thinks that the DVD drive is a CD drive.
I thought of re-installing Win98, but I don't think that it will help my problem, as it is the MB that is mis-reporting the DVD drive.
I removed the DVD player in the system files, unplugged, rebooted, rebooted again and it still reads it as a CD drive.

I have tried new cables, switching cables, etc.

When I delete and then re-boot, 98 detects a CD-ROM drive.
The drive works in my other PC (with an identical TYAN MB running 2K), so I can only think that the bios flash somehow screwed something up.

I formatted the HD. Now I want to install Win 98SE, but when I try and access the DVD rom with the 98 disk in, I get the error "CDR103:CDROM not High Sierra or ISO-9660 format reading drive E"
I am very very stuck! Please help!

Did you make or do you have a copy of the old BIOS file? If so, try going back to the old BIOS and see if that fixes the problem. New BIOSes aren't allways perfect.

After re-booting and looking myself, My CUSL2-C also reports my toshiba DVD in the first screen as a DVD, but second screen it is CD-ROM mode 3. Works fine and shows up correct in device manager. I don't know, could be just a Winblows98 prob.

I don't have the same DVD drive, but I've used bios 1.07 for many many months, and I've never had a single problem with any devices; could have been a bad flash?? I have an Aopen Slot Load 10X DVD drive, FYI.

Maybe try to reload your Bios' Default Settings, then readjust everything from that point to see what happens. I am assuming you are not overclocking (shame, on a Tyan mobo!), correct?

Nothing is OCed, especially not on a Tyan.

I tried re-loading the defaults and that did not fix the problem.

I tried to go back to bios 1.06 but it won't flash. I get in the utility for flashing (flashv73 I think, but one I say to go ahead and program, I get no activity. ERRRRRRRRRRRRR!
