This weekend, I had a Tyan Tiger MP (S2460) go up in smoke. Fire alarm and all. It actually shorted out around a screw hole. The rest of the system is dual MP-16 processors, dual 60 gig 7200 RPM drives, 512 meg of ram, Asus 8200 graphics, Turtle Beach sound, Yamaha CD-R/RW, and a po-parit of other cards, lan, scsi, 56K modem, etc...) So, mine was bigger, now it's just a pile of parts.

Here is my delimma. When I got the Tyan 2460, the Tyan S2466 is available. Tyan use the new AMD 760MPX chip set. The one that fried used MP.

Anyway, delimma is which Mobo to get now? It's all covered under warranty, except for upgrading of course. Let me know your thoughts, personal experiences, heresay of others, places to read experiences, etc...

My dealer does not have the new Asus with the MPX chipset, and besides, do I really want the MPX anyway. Those 66 mghz PCI slots concern me, as I cannot afford to give up 2 good slots, if I cannot use those-

Yes, it was a smokin system before it went up in smoke, lol. Now, how do I get rid of this stupid avatar!?! lol
Thanks!

I would just try to get a replacement Tyan Tiger MP rev3. We also had lots of problems with the Tiger rev1 board... MPX boards are still rev1, and the 66mhz slots dont work for most PCI cards :(

Actually, you can plug a normal 32-bit, 33MHz PCI card in a 66MHz, 64-bit PCI slot.

Alas, claims of backwards compatibility are not yet a reality.

The first widely available revision of the Asus A7M266-D will not allow 33mhz/5v cards in the 66/64 slots when used in jumper-free mode.

I would advise waiting a bit on MPX boards - there are USB issues with the southbridge to iron out and I would bet the 66/64 backwards compatibilty will get much better with newer rev. boards.
