Ty Willingham out as Notre Dame football coach

WTF, you have a winning record, send your team to a bowl game, and you get canned after 3 seasons?

After three seasons at Iowa, Ferentz barely had that record...and in his next three seasons he's had teams winning 10+ games in a season.

Give him a chance to get established. Sheesh.

Oh man, I was hoping he'd get another year especially since they stuck with Bob Davies for so long. Any rumors on who the replacement might be?

Urban Meyers (Utah head coach) is virtually a shoe in. It's no secret that coaching ND has always been his dream job and he's the hot coach right now. ND knew this and got TW out of there before a school like Florida could grab Meyers.

Yeah, Urban Meyer was an assistant coach at ND.

nitsuj3580 is dead-on in saying that ND did this to hire Urban Meyer before Florida could scoop him up.

Urban Meyers has a clause in his contract that he can leave Utah for 3 schools: Ohio State, Notre Dame and another one (can't recall at this moment). He can opt out of his contract now without any penalty...

He's gone...

I am pretty sure the other school is Michigan.

About time. It wasn't just that we were losing, but the way in which we lost. This team just wasn't competitive most of the time. And as the games against Tennessee and Michigan showed, it wasn't that this team lacked talent. They could compete with big time programs. Unfortunately, they had absolutely zero consistency and you never knew which team would show up. Was it the one that got blown out by Florida State, Purdue, USC, and Syracuse, or the one that could show up and beat Michigan and Tennessee? Throw in all the terrible losses to teams we should have beat (Pittsburgh, BC, BYU !?!), and it's pretty clear at least to me that this was simply not a very well coached team.

About time. It was clear after last year, I don't think he can return ND to where they were as a football program. In 3 years I don't think he has gotten one top flight recruit.

Well, it's better then Nebraska (I think they were 8-3). Look where Nebraska is now.
