Only by law. That doesn't make it moral to treat both the same.

This may come as a surprise, but teenagers can want sexual contact. If they go along with it then it's not remotely the same as being attacked.

Its not a surprise. I'm well aware.

As a society, we decided that adults shouldn't take advantage of immature children. If this adult doesn't agree, well there are plenty of places in the world where a 13 year old can consent.

I've even heard of a few places where 8 year olds can get married! Isn't that a wonderful place??

What if it was a 13-year-old and a 5-year-old? Who's the sexual aggressor then?

I'm not condoning what happened in this particular news story, but our consent laws need a major reform.

Technically, I believe they raped each other. See the child porn cases over sexting between teens.

Are you offended that I do not want something mutual involving a teen treated the same as a forcible attack?

I think this 24yold made a mistake, and should face some sort of justice in return, but not to have her life ruined.

Let's be clear on what I was responding to:

WTF is wrong with the justice system when they think a slap on the wrist is perfectly fine punishment for raping a child???

The rapist should be in jail, permanently.

He wants this woman's life in return for this.

No. You should read some of my posts.

I'm a big fan of enforcing the laws as written, and fixing them if they have unintended consequences or removing them if their time has passed.

Having a law that is customarily not enforced, or normally enforced in a different way, invites disparate treatment based on "throwing the book" at someone you don't like.

That is not justice.
