How about making people pay for the babies they make? It used to work great until the liberals broke the system. Removing the consequences of bad behavior and expecting that behavior to change is truly ignorant.

lol. History fail. Even 50 years ago, everyone had a million kids. My dad comes from a family of 7 kids. Right now the USA average is 2.1, Canada is way more liberal than the US and the fertility rate there is only 1.6

I don't want to punish the resulting babies but the parents have to be made to understand how serious pregnancy is and be made to understand the consequences for what they do . When I see someone in their teens with a second child and people claiming it is the fault of sex ed it makes me ill.

You and me both, but there's nothing we can do about.

Unless you want to go crazy fascist and sterilise people on welfare, or after their first child. Or take the kids off em.

That's just not feasible in a civilised country.

At this point there is no hope for them if they do not understand how to avoid pregnancy.

A college should not have to teach Sex-Ed, provide on-site abortions or free contraceptives.

What percentage of the incoming students are coming from primary school systems that teach abstinence only sex ed?

Colleges have to offer remedial courses to correct all of the other subjects that our public school system has mistaught. Is it surprising that they have to reteach sex ed as well?

Abstinence is the worst of all contraceptives because it doesn't work at all.

Err, perhaps you need to study up on how babies are made. Abstinence is 100% effective. No intercourse = no pregnancy. Pretty straight forward.

I'd support a good sex ed program, but we're talking about college students here, they are all legal adults. Even if they didn't get the class in school or the Birds&Bees talk from their parents, I'm pretty sure they've at least watched porn and/or read up on Wiki or Google. Heck, you could figure it out from watching nature programs. :p

Varies by race and income. Wealthy couples have fewer children later in live. Poorer couples have more children at younger ages. White people have fewer children later in life. Hispanics have larger families. And so on.

They aren't learning at home and the abstinence only isn't working either where it is taught, so what do you propose to do? Why not have a clinic at the school. At least they will get valid information when they ask for it.

Unfortunately liberals feel it is my responsibility as a taxpayer to support the child once it is born. I have to support mine that I choose to have and Shaniqua's because she cannot afford to support hers.

Well you know, Shaniqua has to get her hair did too!

I don't know where they get their data, the CC I went to gave out condoms and little pamphlets like there was no tomorrow...you can't force people not to have unprotected sex...it's their own fault when they get knocked up.

Well - The Community Colleges appear to want more money to address the problem, so:

The Simplest solution would be to have the Professors at the Community Colleges provide Oral to all students at least 3 times a day. (..presumably the students are in their 20's, so...). Mandatory attendance, of course. With regular 'relief' and easy access, the students will no longer need to waste precious energy on each other, and will therefore be able to spend that time on their studies. Not to mention it's proven that being relaxed and happy is conducive to learning!

Make 'em WORK for their Tenure!

If people are stupid enough to not realized the consequences of having sex ...even with birth control... they should not be going to college. Colleges do not need to take on the role of parents.

Unfortunately the rabid fundie arm of the GOP thinks every sperm is sacred and fights tooth and nail against better access to normal contraceptives, condoms, emergency contraceptives and abortions . . . leading to those taxpayer-subsidized children.

"Let's just allow abstinence-only sex education because God says sex is sinful."

It's too bad the fiscal conservatives depend on the fundies to get elected, and owe them favors in return.

I have yet to visit a pharmacy or drug store here in the U.S. that didn't have condoms and/or other contraceptives right there in the front, readily available. I went to a public university, and condoms were given out like candy in our dorm, right there in a bowl by the front desk. There's even condom machines in some bathrooms. How much more availability do people NEED?

True, but that wasn't stated in the post I quoted. The quote said people had fewer kids when they had to pay for them, and that simply isn't true. Families in the 50s and 60s with tons of kids had to pay for all of those kid.

Because that's not the point of going to university. If you want medical advice, see a doctor or ask ATOT. People complain about educational places mishandling money, and building clinics is part of that. Sorry we don't have new CAD workstations to teach you guys drafting; we had to build an abortion clinic for people who are too stupid to take a bus to a nearby clinic.

Condoms are about 6-7 bucks for a pack of 12. If these people cant afford that for their own protection. Perhaps they shouldnt be engaging in sex.

Perhaps free condoms instead of retarded bullsheit would be a good idea?

That doesnt make any sense. If people engage in abstinence the chance of pregnancy is 0.

NO sex ed + abstinence only produces people who don't even get how women get pregnant or what can be done to prevent it.

It's a fucking Catholic or fundie disease.

You really believe without education in school people would never figure out how babbys are formed?

Most "rabid fundies" that I know have no problem with condoms, birth control pills, etc. They do have a problem with abortion (especially late-term)... unless Catholics are considered "rapid fundie GOPers."

Well, the Pope is against condoms...

So what services do you expect?

At our community college we have a day care facility. I also see lots of women managing to succeed going to college while raising children. What do you think single parent mothers do when they go to work? Life is tough if you are a single parent.

Dont expect the government to be your mommy till the day you die! Dont have kids if you cant take care of them!

How about we just stop all welfare. Why should the government pay welfare to unwed mothers? This is not in the constitution.

Before or after the fact. There is nothing wrong with the school running a clinic on site for students who might not otherwise get any health care, which would include birth control information.

There's logic behind this, a twisted logic to be sure, but its there. If you get pregnant, it does kinda derail your school and educational plans. But, when are we going to start treating kids as adults? The article notes the ages between 18-29. You dang well better know where baby comes from at 18. I'm not seeing how its the schools responsibility to educate their students on unintended pregnancies. An 18 year old should be familiar with contraceptives, or know enough to keep their legs closed. A failing of the parents perhaps?

WHAT?!?! You mean people should be responsible for themselves?!!?! WHAT?!?!?!?!
