i am having two wireless network running in our environment ,which has 2 WRT54GX routers with different Ip range

and same subnet mask .Both routers using internet connection from the main Domain controller (Main server)

basically i am a developer i am new to wireless n/w so i just configured as i know.

my first Wireless N/W:

ip range is 172.16.a.xxx , subnet : 255.255.255.0, static dns : main server's IP

second wireless N/W:

ip range is 172.16.b.xxx, subnet : 255.255.255.0 ,static dns : main server's IP

i have enabled DHCP server on both routers..

currently i sm facing very slow performance on both N/w's ,eventhough i am having users less than 5 in both networks

please advise me whether i can use same subnet for both wireless N/W 's. suggest me a better configuration

thanks

It's possible but why would you? With only 10 users I don't see much reason to segment by IP segment. You can still segment the wireless clients and if they are desktops then it is probably even a preferred method. If they are laptops and move around then I'd probably leave one SSID for both AP's. If a mix then it would just depend. Actually routing within your LAN, unless there is a legitimate reason you want to do it, is unecessary and in most cases, not very efficient with consumer based routers.
Just not what they were designed to do. Perhaps there is something you left out that provides a compelling reason to do so. Hard to say. Not a lot of information provided about why you would have two seperate networks on such a small LAN (Client number wise anyway)

Yeah, if all your problem is, is interference, then putting the AP's on non overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11) might very well solve it. Though they'd need to be fairly close for it to be a significant problem. And drops would likely be a problem as well, not just sluggish performance but it's something to look at.

On another note, you say slow performance. What is slow performance to you. If you have 5 people all moving data at the same time, then under the very best conditions, your looking at 4 or 5 Mb each when it all washes out. In reality some would have more than others. it wouldn't normally be spread out exactly even. But your only looking at 20-25 Mb per AP with ideal conditions. Wireless is great for the internet. Still not useable where bandwidth is necessary for heavy data traffic.

20-25 is a pipe dream. I've never seen over 16 in open air...think we had a few 20's/low 20's in the cage

26 sustained is the fastest I've ever seen with my own eyes. Not with consumer gear. With consumer gear I've moved data at 20Mb. Many times in fact in however long it's been since I have been doing work on the side with .11g gear. Typically your right though. Closer to the high teens.

thanks for all your replies

my intention is to have 2 separate Wireless n/W is to separate Data & Video

in 1 n/w i am using for Wireless Cameras fully
in 2 network i am fully using for data tranfer from the Shared network drives

i already using channel 6 for 1 router & channel 11 for other router.
i am using different SSID 's

Since i am going to connect the Wireless camera's to the Internet IP , i am fearing that the speed will lose further..

Kindly suggest me.

also i need your valuable help for mapping wireless IP address to the LOcal LAN Ip address in firewall.. whether its possible

Thanks
