I just saw at www.starband.com that companies are now starting to produce satellites that can send and receive. These guys promise 500 kbps down and 150 kbps up during non peak times. Are there any other companies out there that do this? DSL and cable aren't an option for me and the guy who runs our T1 has it choked off.

Starband is the only one i know of, but I know someone who has it already.. they're associated with dish network somehow

he says the bandwidth is really good (as good as they advertise at least), he gets odd ping times in games, and gameplay is similar to over modem

I have a friend who should have his by now, I'll talk to him soon to get and update on his situation. It should be REALLY fast, gaming is ify though. DirecPC should be coming out with there version fairly soon too.

Iam really looking forward to 2 way. DirecPC sucks up here in Canada. Little hours packed together with a huge price tag. :(

I guess I have to be patient....

Isn't Sprint ION supposed to be 2 way satellite broadband with speeds equal to or better than cable? Its not released in my area yet but I've heard alot of good things about it..

MSN and Compaq have teamed up to offer a computer package that includes a Compaq/AMD basic computer with the dish. The system needs to be set up by a technician though. Most Radio Shacks have one of these on display for customers to play with. Download speeds seem impressive but I'm stuck in a rural area at 28.8 at best so anything would be better. They say the NIC and dish will be sold separately in the future but the service needs to get cheaper for me to consider as $49.00 PM is way too much for Internet access regardless of speed(for me at least) - M.

Hmmmm, since when has upstreaming been allowed on satellites? Imagine the risk of being able to hack a satellite.
