TWO TRUMPETER SWANS -- Two trumpeter swans -- days away from being released into the wild -- were killed early Monday at Storybook Gardens, sparking a police investigation, anger and sadness.

The dead swans were found by a security guard. A veterinarian examined the large, white birds with the long curved necks and black bills and confirmed they were killed deliberately by someone.

To think there are people that messed up in my city.

sometimes, animals are killed for a "normal" reason, say you raised a nice steer to use for beef/eating/making hamburgers. when it is ready, you call the butcher guy and he drives his butcher/slaughter truck out to your farm and he "kills" the steer, then chops it up and stuff.

sometimes, sicko's kill animals for no apparent reason, as it appears it the case with these swans

Accidentally hitting an animal on the road is not the same as purposefully killing a defenseless swan (for purposes other than food)

These people didn't kill for the hunt, for food, or for trophy. They killed them to intentionally upset others.

i agree that killing animals such as dogs, cats, and even dolphins or similar animals, is cruel. Killing domesticated animals (ignore the dolphin bit for this one) is quite wrong, and merely killing animals that actually are rather intelligent in their ways (dogs are very smart, trumpeter swans... not necessarily the brightest of creatures), is also something I don't condone.

I'm not saying it's something I endorse, as it is wrong since they were going to be released into the wild and obviously the kills were for purposes other than the typical hunt, but it's not something I am going to get worked up over. If it was two dogs, I'd be pissed.
