Hey, I'm new to the forums and had a quick question. I've recently bought a PS3 and was wondering how to connect both it and a xbox360 to a single surround sound system. there is only one audio input available on my setup and was wondering if there is anyway to bypass it. I'm using standard red/white cables. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

What receiver/set up do you have?
Analog stereo (your red/white cables) will only put out stereo, both of your sources have digital outputs available, does your set up have digital inputs.

Please link us to your product information.

Yeah, with just red and white audio cables, you're not getting the full "surround sound" effect from your PS3 or xbox360.
If your only inputs are red and white audio connections, then an input switch would allow you to hook up a couple sources to your single input. There are better ways to connect those components though but it's hard to help without more info.

My setup doesn't support digital inputs unfortunately. Now that I think about it I think an input switch would be a perfect solution for my situation, any idea where i can get one either online/offline?

What system are you using?

I'm not sure about any specific affordable switch recommendations for you.

You need a switch like this one. Just hook up the rca audio cables of your PS3 & 360 to 2 of the inputs on the switch, then take the output of the switch & plug it into your Audiovox. You could probably find a cheaper switch if you looked, but I knew where to find this one.

Yes, this would be the cheapest way to go.

And the smartest. No switching.

If I recall, back when I had my gamecube and ps2 hooked up like this the sound on the gamecube was muted because the ps2 is never really "off". If I disconnected the PS2 the sound was fine. Now all my consoles are hooked up to there own AV connections, but is the sound issue still the case? PS3 and 360 are never really "off".

Go with the switch.
If you use a Y type cable your subject to loads that either system may put on the line.
Could result in low ouput levels.
