Two Soundcards

So I just bought Battlefield 2, and I want to be able to use my old 15 pin joystick. Unfortunately, my X-fi doesn't have a game port. I have an old SB Live 5.1 that does have a game port. Can I use the Live for just the game port without affecting the X-fi? Driver conflicts are what I'm afraid might be the problem.

No, you will have a lot of problems with this....it ain't gonna fly! Just buy a cheap PCI joystick adapter, better yet, buy a new USB JS!

I personally would recommend against this, however, if you decide to try it this is what I would do:

1) Put the sb live in first and install the drivers
2) Reboot
3) Go into device manager and disable the SB live but leave the "gameport" enabled
4) Put in the X-fi and install the drivers, then reboot.

I know working with my X-fi and onboard work fine when both used at once, I use the onboard for my mic and the x-fi for my speakers and they both work with no problem at all, even when both are used at the same time.

Yes, it should work. There will be hassles though (possibly) Be sure the proper sound card is set as your primary via control panel. If you come across an app that doesn't play sound see if it's settings allow it to choose a sound card. Most apps that won't let you choose will go with Windows default. Don't forget that this is for Input AND output.

I recently bought a USB sound device to rip vinyl records to MP3 for my Dad and his laptop. It's an "input only" sound device but a lot of stuff was defaulting to it for both input and output. Took a few simple clicks to fix. Something to be aware of.

You might dig a USB joystick for other reasons though. Most are modern ones that need little if any calibration. Old analog Joystick ports can be flakey like that.

It might make more problems than good. You might have some IRQ problem and in turn slow every thing down some, because it now having to handle twice the sound card information and god help you if it is sharing IRQ with something else on your system, you well have lock up's like nothing lese. But if all you want to know is well it work chances are yes just not very well at all. I have had the joy of fighting just this problem with having one that is intergraded verses one I added my self, and you always end up disabling one in the end. It would save you a lot of time it you just put $30 into a new USB one. But let us know what you end up doing.
