Two small TF2 rants

First - LOL at "no cursing allowed" servers! This game is rated M for a reason! I got kicked for saying "fucking spies" on a "Cain's Lair" server. There was probably something in the MOTD about it, but I never read those. I can understand a little moderation for things like racial slurs, but come on.

Second - what's with empty servers in the server browser showing there are 31/32 players??? I hate that. I guess they know people like to join nearly full 30+ player servers... but come on, no one is going to stick around an empty server. IMHO they are just wasting their money.
 
First - that has nothing to do with TF2 or valve. that falls completely on the person who runs that server.


Second - my guess is that this is from servers losing their connection to steam. not really sure who that one's gonna fall on.

2. there are server hacks that make it look like there are more players playing than really are, it's more of a "come please play on my server!" hack than anything else
 
Neither of these are game issues, they're douchebag server admin issues. But I agree with you, at least on the first point (never experienced the second).
 
Their playground, their rules. If you don't like it, go somewhere else or get your own.

Valve is working on the second one. If too many people join and then quit quickly, the server will get kicked from the system.
 
thats the great thing about dedicated servers. Dont like the rules, get a server and make your own. Or try this. Next time you want to swear, go ahead and swear, but just to press your PTT button. If you cant communicate with others without resorting to swearing, well, try to learn to communicate with others for a bit.
 
I've played on various Cains Lair servers for years now. It's always been their policy. They've hosted games since UT99 and earlier.

It is in the MOTD as well as timed messages while playing. Sorry you didn't like it. Typically you get numerous warnings, so you were probably douchebag supremo.

No, not really game issues, but two rants I had about playing TF2.

Yup, they can have whatever rules they want but there are hundreds of servers so no loss. I just thought it was funny. It's TF2, not some kiddie game.

Yeah, I try to remember to do that but sometimes I see 31/32 and want to try to get that last slot and don't check first.

As I said I don't read MOTDs. I think I even have them disabled.. since 99% of them are about buying a reserved slot and other rules are common sense.
But no, I got back stabbed and just said "fucking spies" and got kicked. No warnings. Perhaps they were having problems with other players before I had joined and had no tolerance at the moment, but that's all that happened.

+1 remind of this new guy on the ds I play on. Always yapping at the mouth and telling people how to play. Kids.....
 
I agree about the swearing thing. The last thing I want to hear when playing TF2 is douchebags running their mouths and complaining every time they die. I don't want to hear you bitching.

Now if you have something relevant to say such as a warning or strategy, feel free to say it. If you're going to complain like a little bitch, I welcome the kick & ban.
 
Uhh, you don't get banned for cursing on Cains Lair, you get muted. You get banned for racist comments, but not for a few F-bombs.

I am an admin on there, and I was curious, so I did a search for your name assuming it was 'mb'. Safe to say that's not your TF2 name, but I can let you know WHY you were banned if you care to know.

Was kicked, not banned. Never said I was banned.
 
I'll second WT. I'm also an admin over at Cains Lair. If you care to shoot me your steam i.d. and name you where using at the time of the kick i'll look it up in our records and see what the exact reason was. All of the admins at Cains Lair are required to make detailed reports of all mute's/gag's/kick's/bans in case something like this happens. If I cannot find record of it I will forward it on to Cain (owner of Cains Lair) and see if he has anything recorded in the kick/ban logs.
 
I already know why I was kicked, because I rejoined and asked. I was told why and then I disconnected and joined another server. It's really not that big of a deal, I just find it amusing that some people care enough to censor language in a M rated game. Last time I checked TF2 isn't Webkinz.
If I really cared I would have joined their forums and complained there.
 
regarding #1, I've played on those types of servers and there's usually a warning given out. some people seriously spaz out though since their "freedom of speech" is being suppressed. pretty hilarious when that happens since they care so much.
 
Yeah douchebag admins suck. Fortunately it's much less of a problem in TF2 as it is in Counterstrike, where you're likely to get banned for killing an admin too many times.
 
lololol I joined the server (208.43.97.176:27015) again just to see if the MOTD would display with the option to disable HTML MOTDs, and I ended up playing for a while since it was my fav map and nearly full (dustbowl). There were no admins and a lot of people (not including me) were endlessly cursing just for the hell of it.

Shrug. Guess I really pissed someone off last night with one word.
 
So, you have a problem with the way we admin... so much so that you complain about it not to us, but to people on another forum. Then, you come back when you say there wasn't an admin on, which I doubt because the timezones our admins are in cover a wide variety of the time that the server is full or near full. So, either you joined when there was just a few people on or your exaggerating about the amount of cursing that was happening within the server.

Tell ya what, if anybody here is tired of playing on the same crappy servers full of griefers, hackers, people with aim-bots...ect...ect... Feel free to stop on by. I'd bet that there are quite a few gamers here who would rather play on a server that is dedicated to keeping it light and fun while keeping out the rift raff rather than on a server where asshats run rampent.

What is your problem? You guys have such an attitude. Calm the fuck down, no body cares how you administer your servers. If you read what I wrote I said I don't really care, which is why I didn't go to the cain forums, I just thought it was funny. How does thinking something is funny mean I have a problem with it? I don't see the point in it, but they pay for the server and can do what they want, and I can join other servers if I care so much. You REALLY read too much into things while ignoring the rest of what I wrote. But hey, I guess you gotta keep up that holier than thou attitude. Because, you know, I cursed one time on a M rated game, so I'm such an evil duchebag asshole and you = ()🙂

And yes, the cursing was pretty bad. Not just shouting when dieing, but racial slurs that would even get you banned from ATOT. What do you expect me to do, find out who the admins are, watch for when they are gone, join the game and record it?
But yeah, you could say your server was full of asshats as you put it. Hey, watch your mouth you can't say asshat! :colbert:
