A single card is going to give you a better upgrade than Crossfire 480s. AFAIK, most games don't even attempt to support SLI/Crossfire these days and haven't for a few years.

I agree, A 5700XT would make sense, or wait for big Navi which may come out in a few months, possibly a 5800XT or 5900XT. That said, a 5700XT shouldn't be that much, but I guess it depends where you are located. Are you in USA or another country, and what dollar do you use?

I am located in Australia so a new rx 5700 xt costs around $700 and that figure i gave before was for a second hand card as money is a big factor

5700XT is way better, but hugely more expensive.

Any good deals in your vicinity for :

1080 AIB
1080ti
RTX2070
Vega56
Vega64

At the right price may be worth considering. I've seen Vega56 for $200ish, a beefy upgrade over a 480 when optimized.

Adding another RX 480 is best value, because they are dirt cheap, but it doesn't even work in many titles. Most games don't support crossfire at all and having a second rx480 won't do anything for you, it will end up useless in half the games you play!

So the more practical upgrade is the RX 5700XT or the RX 5700, the difference between the two is 13% performance wise and 13% money wise. So you get 13-15% faster performance from the 5700xt at about 13-15% more cost.
