Two Ram options...

I have a choice between buying two of these

Or two of these

(four 512 MB sticks)

I want to run Battlefield 2, Ever quest 2 and World of Warcraft with the highest settings possible so I think 2 GB is the way to go. The thing is I hear Athlon 64 systems like dealing with 2 sticks of ram then 4. But on the other hand the dual 512 sticks have a better latency then the single 1 gb sticks. The other story I hear is that games run better with a lower latency then with greater capacity once 1 GB is achieved. Which set should I go with for best gaming performace? Bear in mind that I'm running a Athlon 64 3000+ Venice and play MMORPGs the most.

Get 2x1GB. On a64's the speed will drop to 333 if you get 4x512's. Latency doesn't make THAT much of a difference. Besides, 2x1GB = More upgrade room.

i'd say get a 2x1gb kit so you can stick some more ram in later on if you need/want to.

Yeah, just go with 2x1GB. They will have higher latencies, but will run aat 1T. They will probably balace each other out more or less. And still, with 2GB, you have plenty of room to upgrade if it ever comes to that...

It doesn't matter.

1T vs 2T is a synthetic benchmark difference.

It's about 3% performance hit. But if you plan on OCing the 4x512 will give you much better headroom when overclocking which will more than make up for the 3% difference.

If you're gonna be using a Venice or San Diego core AND are planning on overclocking, my suggestion is 4x512MB

If not Ocing or are gonna be using a clawhammer, Winchester or New Castle chip, then definately go for 2x1GB

Also, look into some OCZ RAM, much better IMHO than Corsair.

Get two PNY 1GB DIMMs. :laugh:
They're cheaper than the Corsair "Value Select", and they're rated at CAS 2.5 instead of the slower 3.

I would, but I don't want to spend two much for ram. As I stated in my first post, I have a Venice Core. I would like to OC, but I thought my DFI lanparty board could OC the CPU seperately without having to mess with the Ram.

i have 512mb of RAM, however I am thinking of upgrading to 1GB by the time Windows Longhorn comes out. Maybe in August, I will go to CompUSA, and look for good prices of RAM.
