Two questions about new hardware that arrived today

1. I know MSI bios has been iffy icoupled with winchester 939s, and it is imperitive to check before building to ensure you have at least bios version 1.3; however, I don't know how to check the bios version beforehand. Anyone know how to check the bios version before a build?

2. My thermalright xp-90 has a couple of its "heat fins" (<<<<it that is what they are called) bent, does this matter? I think I am being anal here but hell, I did just spend $1300 on new hardware dammit - I want this CPU to scream!

Thanks everyone.

Go into the bios screen and look for a version number? Start a bios flash (then cancel it before saying Go) and see what it says your current version is?

Slightly bent heat fin won't make any difference, unless it's just a symptom of more severe damage.

Well, what I have heard is that MSIs with the wrong BIOS wont post. I amstill waiting on my proc so I was hoping that there was an outside way to get the bios version. Seriously, shouldn't mobo makers put that somewhere on paper? Its obviously important!

Secondly, OK, fins is not a problem then. I would like things to be perfect, but oh well that's life.

living proof here - i've had the same problem on thermalright and zalman hsfs, never adversely affected performance - still getting a 25% oc on my p4. have fun!

As far as the MSI board, I know there is some incombatibility to the board with 90nm chips (what I have) and with certian BIOS versions; which I am not sure about which version I have. So, can I flash my BIOS before I get into an "issue?" I do not have another AMD chip, so I'd need to boot with my 90nm and somehow flash before post (if this can be done, not sure.)
