This is on two different computers, #1 running windows 2000, #2 running windows XP. I googled both of these errors already and found nothing useful.

Computer #1: On startup I get a dialog box saying "The instruction at 0x77fcd79a referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written". If I click Ok it comes up again in 30 seconds or so. If I press cancel it stops and I enter microsoft developer studio.

Computer #2: On shutdown I get a BSOD with an "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and it starts a memory dump. After awhile it eventually shuts down and the blue screen of death goes away.

Your help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The first system may or may not have an issue with the RAM. So run memtest on it and make sure everything checks out. Could also be from a bit of curruption on the HDD. Bad memory can also cause data curruption.

The second system sounds like it has an issue woth the OS. You may want to try a repair install.

The first one could be a remnant of a Virus, worm or malware....Check all your startup items in the registry.

The second one is most certainly a poor or damaged driver that crashes on unload.
