I am working on a compaq laptop and it has windows 98 plus they went and installed
ms dos 7 on top of it.. How do I fix this? I have tried everything, it won't read any disk.. It says error reading disk.. Could anyone help? I am a computer salesman and tech but can't beat this one... What am I missing? thanks Lynnyskynny:disgust:😀:|

boot into dos and fdisk /mbr and then replace the mbr. of course that will eliminate the choices of booting to either win98 or dos 7

Did you use a boot disk with fdisk and format on it or did you just boot into Win or DOS ? If not then try making a boot disk and run fdisk off the floppy.

I have done both nothing works...I don't think it is recognizing the drives D or A..
This can't be that hard, am I being an idiot...lynnyskynny

Can you boot from the CD drive? Could you reinstall Windows98 over itself? You wouldn't lose any data, but you'd lose DOS 7.

BTW... I thought DOS 7 was the version that came with Win98. Or am I mistaken?
