You keep saying this is a privately owned company. Have you looked them up? Maybe our definitions of 'privately owned' vary. I'm just wondering because the first thing I did was try to figure out what major airline these guys fly for. It looks like it's United but apparently this regional is owned by someone else. Skywest I think? Ahh the airline industry... so many little guys!

The company is privately owned, meaning it is not a entity owned by the government, IE, the populous at large. The company may be "public" in that portions of it are for sale in the form of stocks however, those stocks are owned privately, by individuals or companies. The company and its assets are private property, collectively owned or otherwise.

Based on the information we have at the moment, why do you feel this wasn't discrimination based on religious grounds? The only evidence to support the claim that passengers were complaining is from the pilots comment. With what is known right now, it isn't looking good for the airline.

There are quite a few reasons why people believe in a higher power and none of them are good reasons. And this pandering and play along doesn't help matters. If we want to progress as a society, this shit has to stop.

And the only reason you don't think these people are crazy, is because they've been doing their crazy shit for so long it's become "normal" to you. I mean what else would you call people that drink their own God's blood every Sunday? I call it crazy.

I never cease to be amazed by the people here who think that anyone that believes anything differently from them should be discriminated against. People can believe anything they want, even if they believe something that you think is stupid. Seriously, what harm does it do you? If they want to do funny things and wear funny clothes it's their business.

privately owned is a company that doesn't trade on the stock exchanged and is owned buy a one or a small group of of owners.

Yes, and the people who OWN that company, own their portion as PRIVATE PROPERTY. The company is PRIVATELY OWNED, collectively (many share holders) or otherwise (single or few share holders). See my post above. The fact that the company is traded on a market publicly does not mean that the PUBLIC AT LARGE owns it. That is the distinction in this case. Don't own a portion of the airline? Then you will not be involved in the decision making of said airline.

I seem to comprehend better than you do the difference between a publicly traded company and a privately owned one. Airlines are not privately owned companies. They are publicly traded ones. There is a difference. There are rules they have to follow in order to be publicly traded that privately owned ones don't.

He posted it to show that the term "privately owned" is typically defined as something very different than from how you're using it. I understand what you're trying to say, but you're using a term that is incorrect for it because it already means something else.

However, what you're trying to say is incorrect. Companies that are held by private citizens, either by a single person or by selling of stock, still cannot violate anti-discrimination laws. There are certain things like race, religion, and sexual orientation that are legally protected and you cannot refuse service based on them.

It never ceases to amaze me that people think that someone's belief has no impact on others. So tell me, who is behind this new bill they are trying to pass that will force expectant mothers to have a sonogram done on them before they can have an abortion? Do you want to answer that question, or would you like me to answer it for you? And this is just ONE example of religion interfering with others lives.

Again, if we keep taking this passive approach to these nut balls, the insanity will just spread. And that is not something I'm willing to just idly standby and watch happen.

I agree that you need to take a stand when they impose things on others, but demanding discrimination in day to day life is a hilariously misguided idea.

Anyways, that bill that you're referring to is in Texas. Welcome to democracy, if you chose to live in a place where the majority of people disagree with you get ready to disagree with their laws. Don't like it? Move, there's plenty of places in the country that don't do that sort of stuff.

Exactly. And that is why religion shouldn't be allowed to spread. The more the disease spreads, the more rights will be stripped from others that don't share their beliefs.

And no, the answer is not, just move away from the crazy people.
