Two monitors! Any reasons why I would want to use two monitors?

I just picked up my Ti 4600 the other day and I have an extra monitor. I was thinking about getting a DVI to VGA converter and plugging in my extra monitor. However, I'm really not sure why I would want to do this or why lots of other people seem to be doing this. Can you guys give me some reasons please? Thanks,

lol.. that's a pretty good answer, but the main reason people want two monitors is to increase productivity or jus to do more things at once. One way people that use a lot of online resources take use of this is to have their resource on the second monitor, whereas what they're doing on one monitor, or if your like me, u want to game and watch tv at the same time, or chat, watch tv and do w/e else you want, two monitors really help. Also, it increases ur desktop space by as much as 2 - 3x what you would normally have with one monitor (depending on resolution). Either way, if you have the desk space, then get the converter, and use the second mnitor, because you'll find some way to utilize the second monitor.

1. having your html open on one monitor and your preview window open in another.
2. Porn and web surfing all at the same time.
3. Increase desktop space buy 100%.
4. spreadhseet and word open at the same time.
5. gotta do reports well have word open and your browser.

Nope.

Dual monitors is a must have for any sort of video editing, graphix, or web page development work, but it's also grown on me on a more day to day level. Like I'll surf on one monitor, and use the 2nd monitor for other apps like e-mail, Word, Quicken, Winampetc. It's nice not to do as much "window hopping."

Just a question for those that use 2. Does WinXP "split" the desktop fairly well? I mean does it have a window split between the two, or is a window all in one, or all in the other?

Most products only allow you to use the primary boot video card to display advanced features,
such as TV out and 3d gaming. Secondary video can "usually" only be used for basic 2d apps.
This has been the way with Win 98 and WinME, but perhaps XP has solved this issue?

My triple multimonitor setup permits me to have the TV tuner On 19" monitor (I'm a financial consultant so I like to have the business news on as much as I can), second monitor 17" is my browser for keeping up to date stock markets etc, third monitor 17" is for my Email, contact manager, office, word etc.

Another advantage to multimonitors is the capacity to "S T R E T C H" whatever application over two or even three monitors in order to view and work on more information without scrolling.

I don't think I would ever go back to a single monitor setup again.

I disagree with Oreo on this one. You really don't know how useful multiple monitors can really be until you start using them. I have a triple monitor setup at home and it's really nice to browse the internet on the 14", watch a movie on the 17" and still be able to do other normal stuff on the 19". Going back to work and only having a single 17" just makes the computer feel not so useful.

One area that it's nice:You can have two documents open and see both at once. Meaning that if you're proof reading or converting something that you'll be able to see the original w/o having to flip back and forth. Think of it like having a desk where you can only have one page visible at a time vs. one that can have multiple layed out infront of you.

I run a stock analysis/watch program on one monitor all morning/afternoon and I use the second monitor to do other stuff (after the market closes, mIRC takes over all night long). Can't live without them (or I would lose lots of money).
