Gunfire and moments of fear as a rural Oregon school tests its readiness

HALFWAY -- Two masked men wearing hoodies and wielding handguns burst into the Pine Eagle Charter School in this tiny rural community on Friday. Students were at home for an in-service day, so the gunmen headed into a meeting room full of teachers and opened fire.

Someone figured out in a few seconds that the bullets were not drawing blood because they were blanks and the exercise was a drill, designed to test Pine Eagle's preparation for an assault by "active shooters" who were, in reality, members of the school staff. But those few seconds left everybody plenty scared.



Holy F*ck! Too bad one of the teachers didn't kill these two idiots. Or better yet the idiot who planned this!

I imagine a teacher with martial arts training naturally reacting by breaking the neck of one of the "attackers". Whoops.

Drills like this are very stupid, and the people approving them should lose their jobs.
 
I want to see the school administrator's paycheck. Another fine example of people not using their brain despite having a college degree.
 
That's idiotic.

If nothing else, they should be sued for emotional trauma. If some teacher can get fired for "re-enacting" a historical event in a history class and offending the black/jewish/arab/whatever kids, the admins should be shitcanned for these shenanigans.

I seriously started laughing out loud when I read what actually happened. Not because it is funny, but because of the pure stupidity of whoever set this up...
 
So what would happen [legally] if one of the teachers returned fire and killed on of the gunmen?
 
This sounds like something that would happen in Parks and Recreation. Whoever thought this was a good idea in real life needs a real life slap upside the head.
 
Sometimes I just feel like we're all going insane at a societal level. What group of adults could get together in a room and decide that this was a good idea? That the actual risk justified a simulated militaristic assault on an elementary school?

Btw, how many people know that the worst mass killing in a school in the U.S. took place in Bath, MI ... in 1927?

This seems like a good idea. Now when a real shooter enters the school, the teachers will know it's just a drill 😉

Nothing, because it's perfectly reasonable self-defense, but had that occurred, I imagine that the school would vigorously try to fuck the teacher.
