Two lane road, both people going same speed

I think I'm plauged with this issue, happens at least twice a week for me, just on the weekdays

I'll be on a two lane road and on both lanes there are drivers traveling the same speed. This is a 55mph road by the way, I'd think some basic rules like passing on the left could be applied. I just wonder what people are thinking when they do this. Is it that hard to move over a lane?

1) Get behind car in left lane
2) Flash lights
3) Tap horn and flash lights if (2) doesn't yield a response
4) Pass on left when person moves over
5) ...
6) Profit!!

in most states the law is that the left lane is the passing lane so, no that driver should only be in that lane to pass and should move over as soon as he can and should not travel solely in that lane... however cops rarely do anything about it...

Eh, I just feel it's not worth the effort, I don't drive on the road long enough to need to do it to save time

I think I might try flashing my lights though

If they move over, make sure to give them a friendly wave and smile when you pass them, to reinforce the positiveness of driving on the right and passing on the left.

definetley, i do it when I get the chance, that way the person won't be left with a sour taste 🙂

too many people are too stupid to realize the reason it is called a "passing lane" is because its for passing".

I love it when a semi in the right lane is going 55, a guy in the left lane is passing him, going 55.1, and the speed limit is 65.

It's the law in Oregon, Washington, and California that the left lane is for passing only. "Slower Traffic Keep Right", "Keep Right Except to Pass", etc. It's the law. In Oregon, riding the left lane and not yielding to the right lane so that overtaking traffic can pass is 2 points on your license and a $175 fine.

Now if only it was actually enforced, our roads would be much safer. 🙁

One time, in this situation, I just passed on the shoulder. One of the drivers got really mad at me, passed me, got in front of me and braked really hard. I saw that coming though so by the time he braked, I was a safe distance behind his Jeep.

I wouldn't do that if I were him, what if you WEREN'T paying attention and rear ended him!

I experience what you are discussing here a GREAT deal. I am a senior in high school and thus a whole bunch of n00bs I know (namely, almost everyone with a license) think that they're AWESOME TEENAGERS and need to drive in the left lane ALL THE TIME, because they know they're so cool and will definitely be passing people. These are the same kind of people who, when turning onto a highway, immediately get into the left lane even if there's NO ONE else around.

God does that piss me off.

I would have first flashed him/her with my high beams, and if that fails, tail them to the point where I might end up causing an accident. If the person on the right actually slows down enough, I'd try cutting into the right lane and then proceed to cutting the person off in the left lane. But I'd make sure to do it really close to the point where he/she would have to make some evasive maneuvers. I'm proud to say I've done this before and have no regrets.

I don't need to risk myself or my car over some guy not driving fast enough

That was a very stupid post IMO

Oh, what kills me is the left lane river that does it because they hate traffic merging on hte right. I've seen this and it pisses me off more than one could beleive.

well, if there are three lanes and they move to the middle, that's correct

Around where I live, people drive SLOWER in the left hand lane than the right!

Ditto. One would think that if you get passed on the right, they would actually get that they're driving too slow in the wrong lane.

Not necessarily. I have passed people before going five or so over the speed limit only to have them subsequently speed up and go way past me.

You should honk and him a lot while flashing your brights and waving your fist. Make sure you do this while riding his bumper and screaming obscenities.

Actually in California the left lane is both a passing lane and fast lane.

Rookie. This happens to me like 2-3 times on the way to school, each way. I just wait patiently behind them, swinging my car back and forth, or hit up the 3rd lane if its free. Or flash the high beams if its on an interstate trip.
