Just checking out Newegg's prices here on the HyperX DDR400. It looks like there are two 512mb sticks of HyperX DDR400. One is OOS and goes for $125, the other is in stock, and goes for $99. Here are the descriptions..

KINGSTON HyperX 184-pin 512MB DDR400 (PC3200) DDR RAM modules, Model# KHX3200A/512
Specifications:
Type: Kingston HyperX
Capacity: 512MB
Speed: DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Latency: CAS Latency 2 (2-3-2-6-1T) Model#: KHX3200A/512

And...

KINGSTON HyperX Series 184-pin 512MB DDR400 (PC3200) 64X64 DDR RAM modules, Model# KHX3200/512
Specifications:
Type: Kingston HyperX
Capacity: 512MB
Speed: DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Latency: CAS Latency 2 (2-2-2-6-1T) Model#: KHX3200/512

So, looking at those descriptions, there is one that is rated @ CL2, 2-3-2-6 1T, is $25 less and has an "A" in the part number, and one that is rated @ CL2 2-2-2-6 1T. I would imagine both sticks are basically the same, and you are just paying for the rating? Or do you guys think they actually have different modules and/or PCB? Anyone have both kinds?

Hrm, I'd bet it's a sign that HyperX has the same problems as Corsair XMS LL modules of that size... they were rated at 2-2-2-6 and then the new intel chipsets came out and the memory can't run like that. The memory does 2-3-2-6 (in the case of corsair at least) at default voltage and speed. Corsair recently revised the SPD settings in their PC3200LL 512 mb modules in such a way.

The cheaper one might be double-sided, too ... (since it doesn't specify chip configuration, and I couldn't find any info directly relating to that on their website, either!)

Yeah it does. One has faster timings than the other. Just like the corsair one. One is 2-2-2-6, the other is 2-3-2-6. The prices are pretty much the same for the hyperx at either timings ive seen. However the corsair is about $20 difference between models of the 256mb stick.

True, i'll take the $50...

Plus i figure if i am only pushing a 180-190FSB it should be able to handle more agressive timings...

:)

Soon to find out.

Okay, of course I might not be helping anyone out here, as I'm not 100% sure of what version of Kingston HyperX PC3500 I have. It could be the xxxxA version or just the regular kind? Anyway, I'm running my Kingston HyperX PC3500 @ 2-2-2-5. Of course to do this I had to bump up the voltage to 2.8V to get the 512X2 sticks to run at these timings.

And thats my $0.02

There is no "A" version of the 3500. They just have 1 type of that.

Also, just for heads up, I posted a new topic on ram prices with websites that ive done. In middle of upgrading myself. googlegear.com actually has it for $2 cheaper. Not that it makes a big difference. Hey its $2 :p

Hmm...wonder why he was looking for that ;)

P-X

Edit: On a related note, googlegear has a similar price differentiation. with A = $102; w/o A = $129

Maybe not the same gopunk. Corsair fessed up to the fact that they had to switch from Winbond B chips to lesser-performing Winbond C chips when they started releasing a new revision. How, HyperX, they may have had a similar supply change or they may have updated the spds, I really don't know.
