Your doctor is being nice to you, and you shouldn't have take advantage of him by asking him regarding other symptoms that you have.

Maybe the doctor was being nice, but mine will ask my wife or I if the other one of us needs anything like a refill on a prescription whenever we're in. It sure is nice to have a doctor that actually cares about their patients.

schedule one visit
bring second kid
mention to doc that second kid has X problem
1 copay

At least that's how it works with my doc. If I bring lil rudeguy in for a checkup and I need something I just ninja attack him. Its how I got my RX for my nicotine lozenges.

Which one of your kids has a nicotine problem???

If a plumber responds to your house on a weekend to fix a clogged toilet and a leaking sink, does he charge two seperate after hours fees to fix the sink and toilet or does he charge one after hours fee to fix both?

But, in fairness, if the second child had a huge medical issue and not pink eye, and later this issue costs the child her sight, then the OP would be sueing the doc for negligence and insurance fraud. The Doc knows he has a "Get rich quick at my expense" bullseye on his back and he followed proper procedure to cover his a$$.

Analogy fail. The house is the patient, the toilet/sink are the symptons of problem.

Correct analogy is plumber comes to your house A. You say my other house B has a similar problem lets go look at that. Plumber sends you 2 bills. Bill A and Bill B.

Learn to fucking read. If they said: ok, we aren't wasting a room and extra doctor's time on you, but you'd have to pony up some - sure. But what they will do is squeeze 2 people in one time slot, and bill for two people.

Who commits the fraud now?

How many people got treated? Two. Shit, I'm grateful when our pediatrician can see both my kids at once because that's a time saver for ME. They are still treating two kids and billing for two.

Next time insist on waiting longer.

well duh! what fuck did you expect to happen?

edit: thinking about it my kids doctor was great (he retired this year). he would tell us if both kids are sick don't waste money or time and just schedule one and he will see both. That might have more to do with the guy was MY doctor as a kid and i was good friends with his son growing up.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?

Our older daughter (5 years) got a pink eye from school. Oh well, shit happens. But by the time we recognize it (didn't start with the eye - started with pain ear, which we attributed to something else), our younger daughter (7 months) got a pink eye, too.

All right, off to the doctor we go.
They want two copayments. But you know what? They aren't spending any extra resources on the second kid! Will the second kid get a separate room? No. Separate doctor's time? No. It'll all be handled under one appointment. And, of course, even though our copayment is $25, and they will get $50 from us, they will get 3x this much from insurance, because they will bill these as two completely separate visits.

And then we wonder why medical insurance is so expensive.

Two patients. You decided to have two kids. It was assumed you could afford the children you decided to have.:colbert:

It is not one appointment.

They are seeing 2 separate patients. You could have asked for 2 separate appointments and waited twice as long for the kids.

It is one visit.. one visit is one copay. I agree with the OP.

It's not one visit. From a medical record standpoint each kid is going to have an encounter created and documented against. With each encounter comes a diagnosis and an applicable procedure charge.

It's a convenience on both parties to have one room but they are infact two seperate people from a legal documentation standpoint.

Where do draw the line? Two kids. Three ? John and Kate + 8 ect all trying to cram in freebie visits?

Wrong....two patients, two copays.

You don't make an appointment for one family member and then expect the MD to see the other four family members just because they, too, happen to be sick without expecting to pay extra.

But talking about the out of control insurance industry. Had to buy a nebulizer for breathing treatment for the wife....she's had pneumonia and needed this small piece of equipment.

So, called a local medical supply company. I asked how much the machine was. Got told "$89 cash price or $150 if we file insurance for it."

WTF? Now that's something that's not right at all.

Fortunately, our local pharmacy had a DeVilbiss machine that was at least the equal of the machine offered to us for $89/$150 for $42 out the door.

i love op's logic.

i can see it now - the illegals bringing all twenty household members to the doctor to get treated for infectious disease, and according to OP's logic la familia would only have to pay 1x copay.

But house B is RIGHT NEXT door!! He already drove here, why does he have to charge me to look at the sink at house B since it's broken exactly like house A?????

Hate to say it, but it is treated as 2 visits / 2 patients. The doctor's record will indicate he saw / treated both kids. Seperate medical records, seperate bills.

Because it might now be. Could be a whole other issue that takes a lot longer.

When I was a auto tech if someone brought in 2 cars that needed brake work they got charged for 2 brake jobs, not 1.

I can understand you want some sort of discount thinking you have 2 of the same issues that take less time for the 2nd child but you're wrong. You go into a restaurant and order 2 of the same dishes, they will cook them together and separate into 2 orders. Do you expect a discount then too? Obviously they took half the time it would take to make both separately and they only dealt with just you instead of 2 customers.

The doctor is seeing two patients. Regardless of them both beeing seen at the same time. I would expect to pay for two visits.
