Do this. It'll go faster than you think.

Ok I tried the defroster + picking the ice method but it took way too long.
I tried pouring water on it, and it was a little bit faster.
Then I started beating the car with the kettle and the ice just cracked everywhere. All I had to do was pick huge pieces out like scabs.
Overall I'd have to say it was a fun experience... 🙂

😉 Us northerners are already very adept to driving while looking through a thoroughly iced windshield.

Park it in sunlight, assuming there isn't thick cloud cover. That should heat the inside of the car, and by the end of the day, the ice should either be falling off on its own, or else be easier to chip off.

Got a solid 1/2" of ice up here in southern NH....
Ice Tomb
I let the car warm up with the defroster on, and turned on the rear defroster. After awhile, it melts enough to get off with a scraper or just your gloved hand. We have generally have things like scrapers in our cars this time of year..
You can use hot water, but you do risk a crack if you aren't careful...
