Two drives better than one?

No SCSI. Too much cost. Just IDE. Using windows 2000.

Ideally I'd like a single drive system (currntly have 3). I'm gonna buy a WD or IBM 120GB drive.

Will this be slow because of running the system and page file off of the same drive as all my programs and data?

If I should have a second drive, What's the smallest cutting-edge hard disk I can buy? I.e. are there any 20GB drives that perform like these new behemoths do?

I want single drive to keep the noise down too. Currently have a "silent" system apart form my hard disks. And with three of them they make a fair noise.
