Two days until...

... I get to walk into the managers office to give my 1.5 weeks notice!
I'll try to be serious, but I'm not sure I can do it without a sh*t-eating grin on my face.

Right now I fix Jeeps for a living at the local dealership. And as any seasoned technician will tell you, we get treated like crap and taken advantage of. If any group of workers needed a union, this is the group.

Anyway, only six more working days of this crap. Then I'm off to fabricate P4's for Intel. WooHoo!

Congrats. And can I have a proc too? ...and...erm... would it be too much trouble to get me a tbird? 😉

congrat!

you can tell your boss to take the job and S*#&$ it!

keep the P4, but can i have your stock options?

Uhhh...I would be satisfied with a nice little Intel T Shirt or som..errr...a T shirt would be fine..

Maul
(*Smart enough to know that NO ONE will get a P4....but I will be sitting here, with a contended grin on my face in my nice *cough* XXL *cough* T shirt...)

You think you're getting treated like crap now? Well, at least the job is cleaner.

Killbat... Well, while fixing cars, I was mostly working on the electrical and computer systems. So, I do have a lot of electronics background. Not much in the way of microelectronics or semiconductors, though. But, since April I've hit the books hard, and studied my @ss off to learn this stuff.

Last month I had an interview ("Intel torture test", as pm stated it... and I agree) and impressed them enough that they actually hired me as a level 3 technician (one above rookie). I haven't opened a book since, but I probably ought to start again, so that I don't look like an idiot on my first day. 😉

Russ.... you have no clue how bad my current profession is.

Generally the response I get when explaining it is, "Is that even legal?"

I know your pain , I worked for a Nissan dealership for 13 years,Five years ago I left the auto bussines for good,It was the best thing I ever did, but I now have $30,000 worth of Snap-On tools with 2 inches of dust on them....Anybody want to buy them.....

I worked at a Chevy dealer for just over 2 years and I knew I had to leave soon. The best part of the job was the kick a@@ tools and Matco box I bought. Although it cost me about 3K. 🙁 Working on cars for flat rate sucked.

Congrats on the new job.

Soybomb, I'm a Jeeper, 74 JC-5. 😀

Wingednutz i mean.. Wingznut, I'm happy for you man! You know that 😉

I wish I could see some videotape of you walking in there and turning in that 1.5 weeks. I imagine you'll be laughing your ass off. 😛 Anyhow, I've heard horror stories, not just from you but others as well, as to how dealerships treat their repair technicians, service advisors etc... It's just not a good place to work.. unfortunately for some it's the only formal training they have and the only place they feel comfortable working. I'm just glad you got out of it and got yourself an awesome job working for Intel.

You got your lioness!

Soybomb, I own a Plymouth and a Dodge... is that close enough? 😉

Dogbite, I'll have the coolest toolbox (it's bright yellow and set me back $3500 - yes, just for the box) and set of tools in my neighborhood! I'm really looking forward to having all those tools at the house.
