Here is what I am looking at right now:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Zipzoomfly - 339.00
Asus P5B - Zipzoomfly - 164.99
XFX PVT42EUDE3 6800 XTreme 256MB - Zipzoomfly - 94.99
LITE-ON SHM-165H6S - Zipzoomfly - 40.99
Enermax CS-5271BFS-B Case - Newegg - 51.99 (Includes Shipping)
OCZ OCZ520ADJSLI PowerStream 520W - Zipzoomfly - 104.99 (After Rebate)
OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 - Zipzoomfly - 156.50 (After Rebate)
Zalman CPNS Blue LED - Zipzoomfly - $49.99
Artic Silver 5 - Newegg - 5.99
Total $1,009.43

OR

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Zipzoomfly - 339.00
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 - Zipzoomfly - 153.99
eVGA e-Geforce 7600 GT KO 256MB - Zipzoomfly - 139.99 (After Rebates)
LITE-ON SHM-165H6S - Zipzoomfly - 40.99
Enermax CS-5271BFS-B Case - Newegg.com - 51.99 (Includes Shipping)
Sunbeam NUUO SUNNU550-US-SV 550W - Zipzoomfly - 82.99
OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 - Zipzoomfly - 156.50 (After Rebate)
TT Big Typhoon - Zipzoomfly - 49.99
Artic Silver 5 - Newegg - 5.99
Total $1,021.43

I could also go with the Conroe E6400 for $949.43 on the first setup or $961.43 on the second.

Also, I plan on OCing either Conroe maybe 1 to 1.2 ghz.

Please tell me which rig you think is the best. Or please come up with one for me mixing and matching parts from both or using parts you'd recommend.

Please tell me if you think there are any problems with my setup.

My original budget was $800-$900 but as you can see I kinda stretched it abit. Please help me get it down to size if possible without sacrificing any performance or potential Ocing if at all possible.

I am in no immediate hurry, so hopefully some prices will go down between now and the time I will buy. (Maybe around the holdiays at the latest.)

As far as the graphics card goes, I really only play a few EA games and GTA San Andreas so I really shouldn't need the best card out there.

Please PM me if you have AIM, it is much easier to have discussions on a messenger than a forum.

The one that's best is the one you don't buy until prices come down on the cpus and the revised P965 chipsets come out in September. ;p

also, i'd save the cash and go with the E6400 and then get a 7900GT instead of a 7600GT. you know, just in case a came comes out that you really want to play. not to mention the difference b/w a 6400 and 6600 in real world experience is practically nil.

Get a Fortran PSU, 400W max, should save you $50.
E6300, will save you $150ish.
Get a Scythe Ninja insteaed of the Zalmann (around $50ish, same price).
Giga-byte DS3 is the better overclocker, from initial previews.
Consider getting a 60mm fan for the NB Heatsink ($10 max)

And there we go, within the $800-900 range.

Neither... I'd get a real video card in that budget easy...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Zipzoomfly - 339.00
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 - Zipzoomfly - 153.99
XFX e-Geforce 7900 GT KO 256MB - NE- 228 (After Rebates)
NEC 3550 with 512MB pen drive - NE - 26.99
Enermax CS-5271BFS-B Case - Newegg.com - 51.99 (Includes Shipping)
Rosewill single 12V rail 26A 550W - NE- 39.99
OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 - Outpost- 120 (After Rebate)
TT Big Typhoon - Zipzoomfly - 49.99

Total $1,009

I left the case as its in the eye of beholder but you could do better cheaper looking into coolermasters.

I guess you don't need a hard drive?

What does that mean? i was thinking on 6700 myself but whats wrong with unlocked multis? Sounds best but $1000 smackers is too much for a CPU.

I'd have to disagree. While your wallet might be hurt a bit, this is the first time I can recall in a LONG, LONG time when purchasing the flagship Intel chip is NOT a bad buy. With the unlocked multipliers and nearly 3GHz per core right off the bat you can hardly go wrong.

OCZ OCZ520ADJSLI PowerStream 520W - Zipzoomfly - 104.99 (After Rebate)

I have this powersupply and it kicks ass! Im going to sell it though to upgrade to a 700w so if you want a good deal email me at rfisher983@bellsouth.net

Btw, the 7900GT rocks :)

I know 7900GT is better, but I dont have that kind of money to spend and dont need that kind of power for GTA San Andreas and a few EA Games.

What about the next versions of those games that come out? You'll regret it terribly if they run like crap on the cheaper card.

He meant the 6800xt video card in the 1st system. Its crap compared to the 7600gt.

if you're not afraid to overclock, i'd grab an e6400 and the ga-965p-ds3 and apply the extra money towards a 7900GT or X1800GT. I think i even saw someone in the forums who found an X1900GT for under $200, which is a really good buy. If you can't spend that much on video, you owe it to yourself to at least get a 7600GT. The 6800XT is garbage. it's a 6800GT with half its pixel pipes disabled, which means that even a lowly 6600GT has a 50% fillrate advantage on it, plus it's several generations old.

For the record, fillrate has little effect on real-world performance... the 6800XT still trounces the 6600GT by a healthy margin, but I do agree that it's not the card to get at this stage in the game.

Where can I get a Tuniq Tower 120 from a reputible place like newegg or zzf. I know neither of them show it when I search.

Anyone have any cheap cases with good airflow that they'd recommend?

Enermax ELT500AWT Liberty 500W for $105 or OCZ OCZ520ADJSLI PowerStream 520W for $105.

Which would be better for my rig?

Reminder, here is my rig so far...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Zipzoomfly - 339.00
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 - Zipzoomfly - 153.99
eVGA e-Geforce 7600 GT KO 256MB - Zipzoomfly - 139.99 (After Rebates)
LITE-ON SHM-165H6S - Zipzoomfly - 40.99
Enermax CS-5271BFS-B Case - Newegg.com - 51.99 (Includes Shipping)
OCZ DDR2 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 Platinum XTC Edition - Frys - 139.99 (After Rebate)
TT Big Typhoon - Zipzoomfly - 49.99
Artic Silver 5 - Newegg - 5.99
Total $856.92

I could also go with the Conroe E6400 for $796.92.

Note: This price is without the $105 PSU.
