11-18-2004 Two Girls Accused of Serving Poisoned Cake

MARIETTA, Ga. - Two seventh-grade girls were arrested on charges that they served poisoned cake at their middle school cafeteria to about a dozen students who became ill and had to be taken to the hospital.

Lab tests showed the icing on the cornbread cake contained an expired prescription drug, bleach, clay and tabasco sauce.

"They took it into the cafeteria at lunch time and began passing it out to students, just whoever would take a piece," said Jay Dillon, spokesman for the Cobb County School District in suburban Atlanta.

Some of the students started vomiting after eating the cake, officials said. Eleven of the students, mostly seventh graders, were treated at a hospital and released, Dillon said.

Police said one of the teens was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit murder, among other charges. The other girl was charged with the same 12 aggravated assault charges.

We had out share of pranks in school (the ubiquitous Ex-lax Hershey Kisses trick,) but this is a bit 😕 Shouldn't 13-year-olds know that bleach and random prescription medication just *might* be a bit dangerous?

Good thing it wasn't a fruit cake. Their prank would have failed since I can't think of one person who's ever actually eaten a fruit cake.

Heh, wtf, wouldn't you spit this out IMMEDIATLY after putting it in your mouth?

I do not agree with them being arrested and treated like an adult. Our corrections system is broken and will never get fixed. Once these children enter the system they will become lost and will not be reformbed.
The first thing to catch my eye was how did they pull this off without an adult knowing or being present at some point.

Though I think that they should receive some form of punishment, they should also go after the parents. The parents are the one who are responsible, they should be the role modles, at the very least they should know what there children are up to. I bet they do not know what there children are doing at any point in time.

Finally, since this is coming out of Ga, it is a little shocking but not hard to believe.....

Have you seen our fat arse kids lately? Actually tasting food has been optional for years.

It's ridiculous to treat this children as adults. WTF do people think juvenile delinquent means?!

They should be arrested and treated like adults. Sometimes there is only so much a parent can do.
You don't put bleach and prescription drugs in cake and give it to your classmates unless you are trying to kill them.
This wasn't an accident. They intended to kill their classmates.

It's sad that they were detained at all. They should appear in court but they are NOT a threat to the public and don't require being in detention. Ask me how I know? I run the largest Detention center in LA.

A friend of mine's girlfriend tried to make him a cake as a suprise.
I think she used Redi-Crete, it was dense, rigid, and hideous.

you are in charge of LAX?

Hmm....well....in there defense I have to say that maybe they were just lousy cooks....I mean most schools have done away with Home Ec programs.....maybe they just thought those ingredients sounded good together. Who among us hasn't talked prescription meds and clay with a tabasco chaser at some point in our lives?
