Twitter is one of the most powerful and useful tools to come from social networking. The trick is to be highly discriminating with who you follow. If you're into world news, following CNN or AJZ will get you what's breaking more quickly than any other media. If you're into sports, following certain sports journalists will do the same.

This criticism over "Well I don't care what Kanye had for breakfast" is like saying you don't like knives because "Well why would I want to stab someone?"

twitter is a way for famous or important people to whore themselves out on a 24x7 basis to the unsuspecting and daft public.

Twitter is like an RSS feed but better. I use it a lot, but don't post much. I follow interesting people, news sites, sports teams, and some fictional accounts for fun.

This is what I do with it too. I think it's a fantastic improvement on RSS for customized news, really.

Ahh... yes. The inevitable wave of nerds who dislike anything social and understand it.

My fiancee loves pinterest (which isn't surprising, as it is a website designed exclusively for women) and her sister hooked her on Foursquare. Now whenever we go somewhere, she proudly exclaims how many visits she has left until she becomes mayor. It's a little disturbing, actually. I'm anxiously awaiting the day where she gets hammered and gets cut off somewhere and screams "You can't cut me off, I'm the fucking mayor of this bar!"

Its ok. I think most of these things were designed for people in their 20s. I think most of AT wasn't in school when these things launched. Having Facebook in college is like having a cell phone now. Otherwise most people feel like you're out of touch with society.

I see a point in twitter. It's a social networking thing. You can use it as news updates if you want.

Foursquare is about letting your friends know where you are. It helps if you have friends on it. If not then yeah it's pointless. I check in and a good # of my friends do. Its gamification. Mayorships, points, badges, competition. There's also photos, reviews/tips, comments... the social aspect of it.

Twitter pretty much serves as a compiled RSS feed for me. I only have one friend that I follow on it, and I leave the rest for Facebook.

The thing is Facebook is dying. It's peaking in college where my friends who just graduated from college or are still in school are clogging up my feeds. Most people my year have slowed down quite a bit. In fact the whole social aspect really slows down after college. You don't sit at your computer for hours at end after work. People go out and socialize the old fashioned way.

Furthermore, Twitter, Google+ offer supposedly more "hip" ways of communicating now that Facebook is too mainstream. I see people slowly gravitating towards that. I still Facebook, but it's not the same as before in college where I expect hundreds of photo tags after a weekend outing.

Naturally that requires me to switch to Twitter as well. I feel also with Twittersphere's clutter it's easy to just tweet 10 things in a row. Facebook seems like you gotta make every post count because you expect a good number of comments/likes to follow. Posting 5 status updates there in an hour just screws up the comments, etc.

"I don't use Facebook as much as I used to, therefore Facebook is dying." Well, I've NEVER used Facebook. Therefore it doesn't even exist.

Checkmate, logic.
