for some reason i couldn't get your link to work techie, if others are having this problem, I will tell you I did manage to find that page on the twinMos site, and I can say techie is right they do produce VC memory, the same pic on the shentec site as on twinmos.

Now I have a question. I had been looking into Virtual Channel RAM for a while, but never really found any place to get it or any good results of it. So then I turned my attention to overclocking, and am in the process of getting some mosel vitelic. I already have one stick and it overclocks very well. My question is what would be better the virtual channel memory(does anyone have any stats as to how well it does overclock), or the overclocked mosel. LMK what you guys think.

Now that I know I can get some VCM I am kinda leaning towards that a little since it does stress my system like overclocking does, but LMK. I don't really want to get this thread off topic, so please PM me with answers.

Damn, thats some good RAM. I paid $140 for my 256MB of mosels, and they are only 7ns!!

I must say I'm honestly curious...their sites says "VCM DIMMS" which means virtual channel memmory. See NEC's site, necel.com, for more info about VC SDRAM. The price is too good to be true though at over half-off the next lowest price.

I can say this though...the FPU benchmarks that audscott put up are impressive.

Hey audscott, what CPU you running?

The reason I ask is because bandwidth on VC memmory scales more with the processor speed than traditional SDRAM...e.g. if a 700MHz TB scores 600 MB/s than a 1000 MHz processor would score around 780 MB/s, maybe a little less. I'm not kidding, VC SDRAM really cooks...that's why I want to get a nice blue core 1.2 TB and OC it to 1.4+.

However, I found that my PC133 7.5ns VC SDRAM only OC to about 140-142 cas2 or about 147-150 cas3. But the bandwidth is fantastic even at 133 cas3...it truly smokes at 140 cas2, much better than my old mosel rev2 at 153 2-2-2.

Saw this article a while back when I was thinking about buying VCM. The article talks about SDRam vs VCM.

Link

From what I read, this is what I think it boils down to. VCM looks good on benchmarks but in real life apps and games it performs just about the same as sdram.

Well, I'm about to RMA this memory.

It's not VC memory....that's for certain. Actually the DIMMs I received aren't even TwinMOS....they're SpecTek. That's the label & sandra also detects this manufacturer.

I mixed my Kingmax with a stick of this & my system booted - Windows ran. VC memory does not work with SDR memory.

I either got a screwed up order, the posted memory is fraudulently represented (Dartek anyone?) or TwinMOS labels their memory "SpecTek."

So it looks like DDR is going to be outperformed soon. How does PC166 and PC200 compare to the DDR PC2100 or should I say PC133(x2 virtually)? If AMD processors are now at 266MHz true bus without all of this BS double data, that would mean a really nice performance increase in true PC166 and PC200 out there.

Is that correct that VCM won't work with regular SDRAM? I am not saying audscott is wrong, i just thought I read somewhere you could mix the memory types. Can I get a few more opinions.

I was pretty certain that VCM and SDRAM couldn't be mixed...uh, any other way of telling the difference? If only companies would know for sure what they're actually selling...wouldn't that be nice?

I can't find the web page that I had read VC & SDR memory wouldn't mix....sorry

Just received my RMA - It's SpekTek PC133 memory I recieved rather than the TwinMOS - I'm going to tell them to "stick-it" :D & get some Syncmax VC166 or Tonicom PC166. Leaning toward the Syncmax because it is VC memory - none of this "I wonder if it's VC?"

I think spek tek is a subsidiary of Twin MOS.

But anyways, I got a call from Twin MOS and they said that they did not sell any VCM to Shentech, so if it is VCM then they bought it from someone else. But apparently TwinMOS has sold some memory to Shentech.

What would be the best VCM to go with. I was originally planning on going with Mosel Vitelic in my system and overlock the heck out of it, since for one I didn't think VCM overclocked very well, and for two at the time I decided this there wasn't much available. Now it seems like there is some around so I think I may go with the VCM, so you think syncmax is good. Got a link?

Here's the page that explains VC & SDR memory don't mix. (Click on memory module, PC166 specification tab for the document)

I'm looking at some SyncMAX VC PC166 memory from Vitality...Reseller ratings not too bad.

Little more expensive, but (hopefully) get what I order.

SpecTek = Micron

SpecTek

Got mine yesterday. It?s for sure not TwinMOS. Mine was Xerox branded. Manufactured in USA in 1999. 7.5 ns. Not 6 as they advertise. I suppose they just dumping someone?s overstock or even used RAM.
Tests: it?s work under 133 CAS2-2-2. Sisandra results similar like my old Mushkin rev 1.5, BUT prime95 runs 4 times solver!!! I couldn?t even imagine that it?s possible such differences. Checked three times? running only one ram module at a time.
I think is false advertising. Going to return this crap. It?s my first such return. Anyone could say: they should refund full price & shipping?

Damned right they should refund shipping...to and from.

I emailed them, got an RMA & put a letter in the RMA return - it was a stinker, demanding a refund or not only the product but shipping.

I'll bet the charge me the 15% restocking fee their sites lists is applied to non-defective component returns.

We should start another post in the appropriate off topic or growns & aches (whatever) thread here in hot deals about these bastards.

At least the memory I got did 155 cas2 (SpecteK = Micron) and 167 cas3. Hell, maybe I shoulda' kept my damned mouth shut for $35.00 per stick plus shipping (Not).

Just got mine by UPS, its a POS!!!! It has M.Tec chips (they now say that on the site, was that there before) won't even POST at CAS 2, under Sisoft Sandra it cant even identify a brand name!?!? This just sucks, I could have had at least then NEC Syncmax 256meg PC133 DIMM for this price, silly me for thinking this was even decent RAM, oh yeah, its a double sided 128meg DIMM, like who even uses double sided DIMMS for that little amount of memory nowadays??

Just talked to them. They tried to convince me that there is no difference between any PC133 ram. And I should be happy if it works.
Oh yes. They want me eating shipping booth ways and 15% restocking. It?s about 20$?

Anyway my RAM isn?t the same, I ordered, so it?s they ?mistake? if not False advertising. So I think if they don?t promise me to return all the $$$ I paid, I?ll try to CC company. Any other ideas ?

got my stick, but doesn't say TwinMOS when I test it w/ sandra

it only says 128MB 16x8. CL3 133mhz.

I am running it at cas2 103mhz though.

so...

is there a way of testing it to see if its twinmos?

I received an email from Shentek..they will refund the entire price of the bogus memory purchsase plus shipping.

I put a really direct letter witht the RMA - that did the trick.

Rip off.

Lets be sure to NEVER purchase from these jackarsses again.

M.tec chips. Nothing special. Appears to run a tad more stable than some of my other generic crap.

Shentek is officially "SUCK".

And yes... they TOTALLY changed the site now. Does not even mention the ram we bought from them.

Little pricks.
