The Trib. reported that 2000 waited inline for the opening. I'll probably check it next week. I am always looking for good storage ideas for our Apt.

So my girlfriend went there today for the opening. She went with some coworkers at about 1pm. Apparently it was quite a zoo in that store. They waited in line just to get in, and there were tons of people inside. The checkout lines were long and super slow. Lots of dumbasses were pissed about how long it was taking. They should have known better. She bought a few things, but I think is now waiting a month or so until we can come up with a list of stuff we for sure need.

My girlfriend and I had the day off so we went around 8:30. There had to be at least 2000 people waiting. It took us over an hour to get inside the store after they opened, because the line was that long, and once we were in, it was so impossible to move around that I wished I had stayed in bed.

I used to live in Berlin and always shopped at Ikea. Prices are higher here on what are the exact same items. Then again, living expenses in general are more expensive in the US than Europe, so I suppose it's not surprising.

The thing about IKEA furniture is that it's good unless you move. Their junk really doesn't hold up well to moves.

So tell me how you can have 1 leg in Minneapolis and 1 in St. Paul at the same time when the Mississippi river devides the 2 cities???

Also the term Twin Cities has nothing to do with the 20+ suburbs. It is just as others have said 2 major cities that are side by side.

The person that made the MN Twins reference...nailed it! And great comment on their cap too.Text

Because the river is the boundry for only some of the city limits. If you go just east of the U you can have one foot in Hennepin (Minneapolis) county and the other foot in Ramsey (St. Paul) county.

WCCO TV had this as their top news story yesterday. Were they paid to be there? It's just a store opening. I wouldn't get all that excited over it.

Well its quite the opposite case for me. all my stuff is ikea and the primary reason I bought Ikea stuff is ease of Move. On top of that they really look cool and simple.
The good thing about Ikea stuff is that they are very easy to assemble and dissamble. And that makes the moving very very easy. My bed just breaks down into small pieces, so does my big computer desk.
someone might argue that most of the furnitures these days are sold similar way and can be assembled, but they rarely can be dissasembled.

Allow me to qualify that statement then. IKEA is lousy if you have to move, unless you disassemble it and reassemble it all.

if all it takes to be twin cities is to be right next to each other, i think america has a lot of twins. and when saying a city is right next to each other, it does mean one foot on 1 city and the other foot in the other. ;p

I'll be check the place out. I saw their online store and things looked pretty decent and cheap. You know the average shopper spends 2 hours per visit?

I wouldn't doubt that 2 hour statistic...not only is Ikea huge, but they also have sweet set-ups inside the stores that make you just want to buy everything they got.

Prices are cheap, products are great, and you do get them the same day since everything is so flatly packed. Hopefully you don't mind spending some time with a hex-bit once you get back home :D

yea, its well engineered for its price. the online store only has a small fraction of what they have in the real stores. as for people camping out for the chair..yea its a lost cause. in the bay area when one opened people camped out for days or something... the losers came out:p i have the poang, its very comfy and well designed.

correct. They combine into one huge metro area, with lots of suburbs and other towns now growing to be an even BIGGER metro area... crazyness...

EDIT: and yes, it's Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Hmm so its like Dallas/Fortworth, but i guess both Minneapolis and St paul are equally big unlike DFW where Dallas is bigger and more famous. That may be the reason they are called twin cities, also may be that Minneapolis/St Paul dont sound that good togather and would take a bit of effort to pronounce them both.

Anyway today I learnt something after all.
thanks guys

Umm, I'd like to think that the greater Tri-City area of Chicago/Skokie/Monee ranks among the nation's most prestigious!

Is it me or does "poang" sound like something I've been hunting for since my student days?
