Just ran it on my QuadroFX Go1400 @ 1024x768 (highest it went) with everything on high and no problems except for the shadows.

Prolly more like 70MB of crap (NVIDIA drivers, DirectX, and Gamespy Arcade). Plus another 10MB of logo movies. All of which is aboot 15% of the demo size.

Howdy, Just joined this forum cause I am looking for der-fix for the ATI issues.

I have tried 5.6, 5.1 (omega) and my current 5.5 and all of them have varying degrees of VPU meltdown. Do I need to wait for some sort of fix on EA/Dice/ATI's end or...? Help!

System is amd3000+(venice), 1.5gig corsair, ATI9600XT

I found that in order to play this game with ATI card issue you must
1. unistall it
2. reinstall it
3. play
4. goto step 1

Have fun! I permenantly deleted mine, not worth the trouble if EA is such a screw-up.

Surprisingly, no problems on my 9800P with Cat 5.5. The shadows are a bit jumpy, but I don't think that's an issue, just the way they're coded. I'll try 5.6 eventually.

Otis, try downloading the demo via the BitTorrent link at 3DGamers.com.

Well, that ain't right. First of all, turn off AA via the drivers and enable it via the game (same with AF). Then maybe try the latest drivers, if you haven't. How's the cooling in your case, and on the XL, specifically?

Man, does that crane ever scream out for AA. I'll find out how much pain 2xAA will inflict on a 9800P tomorrow. With any "luck," I'll be CPU-bound, anyway.

I've got it running on a 9800 pro, Cat 5.5 and 5.6. When I very first ran BF2 it crashed my entire comp and corrupted Windows, so I had to repair it. Not sure wtf that was all about, but afterwards everything was fine. I've got 4xAA enabled and working (on both 5.5 and 5.6) so not sure why it's not working for some of you. I've had it crash to desktop like twice in the past 2 days, and lock up once. Other than that it's run pretty smooth. My only gripe is their lack of co-op support.

My only crashing on the rig in sig seems to happen in the menus... it has never crashed in game.

But its not just a CTD, its a full system halt that requires a power down.

Running the drivers that came with the demo.

It also appears that 1600x1200 breaks the 1GB memory threshold, especially on 64 player servers, it runs like total crap at 1600x1200 no AA max AF, but runs great on 1280x960 4xAA max AF.

Texture quality is an adjustment of mipmap levels, probably. Not sure where the texture filtering options are...

Running on a 6600Gt at 10x7 with 4xAA on and in game settings at High, with BF2 supplied drivers, they work great. Framerates aren't the greatest, but accpetable. almost barely.

HI Acanthus.... I think that is the case. My system seems to run 1600 x 1200 pretty smooth (taking the servers into account) on the 64 player maps. I was hoping my 2Gb investment would pay off one day :p

You think turning the aa off in the driver will help? I've got 4 80mm fans in my case, but the temp here has recently skyrocketed, so my case/gpu temps have also. My X800XL broke 70C recently playing BF, and my processor has broken 60C (its an Athlon 64 3000+ OC'd to 2.4ghz). I'm going to try and get an XP-90 for the processor as soon as I get the time, but right now its just on stock cooling.

my system plays this game ok...but the first 2-3 minutes in-game lag like hell like it needs to pre-cache. anyone else getting that?

Yeah, I do. I tried being a gunner in a hellicopter on my first spawn and it was almost painful. I was probably getting about 2 FPS.

I found a link detailing a quick performance comparison between different video cards on the BF2 demo. Actually, I'm not sure WHERE I found it, so in case it's already on these forums... "oops".

X800XL:

Battlefield 2 Gulf of Oman AMDZone Demo
1024x768 62.32
1280x960 51.84
1600x1200 39.49

6800GT:

Leadtek GeForce 6800 GT
Battlefield 2 Gulf of Oman AMDZone Demo
1024x768 62.83
1280x960 47.63
1600x1200 38.52

Check the article for full information on system specs, although they don't appear to list the Nvidia driver version they used.

I guess my point is that BF2 doesn't appear to have any performance issues with ATI -- and as for stability issues, the game is rock solid on my rusty 9800 Pro system.

Yes, I think I read something about BF2 not liking AA via the driver.

60C sounds high for an A64, but I'm not really up on allowable CPU temps. It's not 90nm, is it?

Tried the demo just now and it works fine on my X800XL.

Running 1280x960 no AA/AF. Very smooth for me (doing single player)

A64 3200+
1 GB RAM
Catalyst 5.3

-D'oh!

Yeah its 90nm, and yeah the temps are pretty high. :( The CPU normally tops out below that (54-55ish) but we were having a heat wave when I wrote that.
