:(, does anyone else really trust the airport searches?? i've started to really question them.

i carry my leatherman around with me EVERYWHERE, here is a link for those not familiar with this tool. It is EXTREMELY useful for me. so for me it's second nature to have it with me. unfortunately twice now going into airports to fly out, i've forgotten to leave this tool in my car. :( BOTH times it went RIGHT thru all the inspection stuff.

WTF is up with that?

they always ask you to take off your jacket and put it thru the baggage.

what i wanna know is wtf are those security guards looking at in their xray monitors? should they see this big metal object and at least check to see what it is?

Airport security is a total joke. I took through my camera on the way to japan (it's a fairly large one) and went through security on three occasions (two of which were US). They didn't even make me turn it on. Even a clown could have taken the vast chasm within the camera and fashioned things within it - parts of a weapon. Then my carry on briefcase I was wondernig what nasty things somebody could store in the metal handles. I mean really security is bad. I think the only way to keep a terrorist from doing something bad on a plane is:

1) Bomb sniffing, so that the plane doesn't go down.
2) Severely secure the cockpit and arm the pilots on the off chance a terrorist gets in

Then, the only thing that can happen is that somebody could act the clown in the cabin and start killing people with a knife or whatever, but they can't down the whole plane.

Also, I'd stop carrying that. If somebody gets lucky and finds it on you you could be in big sh*t for bringing on a tool that has a knife on it :(

I have been on a couple of flights with my Gerber tool in my jacket. They never caught it.

This screen shot should give you some idea of why it's hard to spot a metal object nestled in the folds of a jacket.

You == Terrorist!

Their new monitors are supposed to have a type of "AI" function that recognizes the patterns that explosives show on xray.

The only problem giving pilots guns is if by chance the terrorist get a hold of those guns you are really screwed. A secured cockpit makes sense.

Airliners are not nearly as fragile as Hollywood would have you believe.

Personally I think concealed carry should extend to airports/airplanes.

Hijacking would be a non issue when you know that there are likely armed people on the plane who really don't feel like being hijacked.

hehe not likely. Security is a joke, but letting people conceal on plane would just make it worse.

I know it's not going to happen, but I can dream. :)

Here in Oregon concealed carry is legal on school grounds with a CHL.

I don't know about concealed carry on the plane, half the people I know that just carry their stupid glocks everywhere they go are just waited for any excuse to start shooting...bad move on a pressurized plane.

Maybe allow a special level of 'marksman' and these people get more gun rights. Doesn't make them 100% accurate, but make it so most people can't pass the the test.

I am against guns on a plane (except by pilots/marshalls). Basically an unarmed group of people is better than an armed one, and if you just allow everyone to carry on guns you can end up with a freaking firefight in a plane by a bunch of morons.

The guns air marshalls have use bullets that break on impact and make that less likely.

IMO the only thing that can stop a terrorist attack is information. If there is no information, then the attack will go through. Silly things like airport "security" checks exist only to please the general public and to make people think they're safe.

Been watching a few too many movies, have we?

Yeah, a plane with a hole in it will start depressurizing. It wont rip apart, nor will you suffocate on the way down. Nor do you instantly freeze.

Watch less movies, or do a little more thinking. Preferably both.

Plus, they have these things called "frangibles".
