Tweaking my registry for my cable modem...

I've looked on tweak3d.net and speedguide.net for registry tweaks for my cable modem. Most if not all of the entries that they tell me to change are even in my registry to start with. Does it make a difference if I add them myself? For instance, I don't have a MaxMTU, or MaxMSS entry, should I just add them?
