Tweaking buffer updates with dnetc

I know someone with access to a couple of low-traffic file servers at his work and he offered to install dnetc on the systems for me. Unfortunately IBM's firewall blocks the client from flushing on port 2064.
The problem is that the client still tries to flush every 3 minutes or so. Is there any way to set it to download and crunch packets, but not flush them?

Is there some way to use the "Disable buffer updates from/to a keyserver" option to do this?

You can setup the client to use another port for instance 23 or 80 (I believe those are telnet and ftp) And see if that works better... I use the config option and do the config from the menu driven interface and there it's really easy to find it under conectivity options BTW: if you go to http://www.iodbbs.com/tappstatus.html you'll see which of the babybovines use what port and their addresses so you can setup the client accordingly... hope you get it to work!

Thanks for the tip. I was still using v8007, which doesn't have that option in the config menus.

Ooh, yes, you'll want to upgrade if only to speed up that Athlon of yours. The new Athlon core, core 6, is so good it even speeds up Cyrixes!

Several things to try on getting through the firewall.
1. If the PCs have an Internet connection, check to see how they are set up. Are they going through a proxy server? Are they using port 80?

2. I could only get through our firewall after specifying the IP address instead of the DNS name for the keyserver. I flush to Clueless.2y.net, since I can flush using port 80 (the same as most Internet connections) but not through port 2064.

I'll try to post some of the .INI settings when I get in to work tomorrow. (Or some other helpful soul around here can )

Upgrading to v8010 was great. My Athlon 500 @ 550 jumped from 1.61Mkeys to 1.95Mkeys!

RaySun, I did just that. Flushing using port 80 did the trick, so I've now got a couple more pentium machines in my herd.
