I am trying fruitlessly to get Mass Effect for PC to work. The game crashes easier than a house of cards and tons of people are having trouble with it.

I hear that there are tweakforce "Xtreme-G" forceware drivers that may help, because the game is very sensitive to driver versions, but I don't know if it is wise to use 3rd party drivers...

Any advice?

P.S.: Don't get Mass Effect PC. I'm just trying to make it work because I already have it.

8800gt
177.41 drivers
vista business 32 bit

Hope this helps. And the mass effect game is amazing, so i dont know about not recommending it...

I have used the Tweakforce ATI drivers many times in the past and they're quite good, never had any troubles- might aswell give them a go and see how you fare.

3rd party drivers are generally a waste of time. They can't fix problems in driver code, all they can do is change the packaging of the files and alter the registry keys a bit.

Well, I tried them out, but nothing changed. It got worse actually. This was because of an issue with the game not working with that version of drivers, though. It works better with the latest official release... still crashes all the time though.

I really wish I hadn't gotten this P.O.S. The game itself is really awesome, but that just makes the problem that more unbearable.

Yes, 177.41 works well with it. Mass Effect seems to be very picky about drivers and the newer ones cause frequent crashes in it. (the engine error messages it gives have nothing to do with the video card, but they started to occur insistently when I switched drivers)

Supposedly the game works better on Vista.

So far for me (on XP) it works best with 175.19, rather than 177.92, but it still crashes. I'll try 177.41, but I have an 8800gts. I guess that worked for you though, right?

Did you have to disable PhysX?
